It's not a durable tyre when you have rocks - the sidewalls are to thin and start unthreading quickly. Unless you are only looking for a tyre to use in non-rocky terrain I'd go for a different one. Not sure how other non-UST tyres perform tho.

I bought mine (26er) from CRC a while ago!

 

Great set of tyres...UST version will not cut on rocks....beleive me - mine's now ~18mths old and still going strong.

Maxxis Ikon exception exo protection. You'll thank me later. Race King protection's sidewalls is weak, my brother has it and after 10 rides the tread is showing. Not cool

I was at Solomons yesterday, someone called bout these tyres as well...maybe one of you guys. They said the suppliers don't get any stock because Conti International don't supply quotas, they've been waiting since mid last year.

 

Their loss I guess.

 

Bought the 26" X-King Protection for the back, will see how that works out, looks like a solid tyre.

Dont encourage them one day in like 3 years time when my front Ikon wears out there wont be stock.

What about the 29er Crossmark?

 

CrossMark is a great back tyre, riding it at the front is not recommended. Also Crossmark is LUST ie full tubeless and heavy, 835grams per tyres.

 

When you buy the Ikon it has to be a Exo Protection (stronger). It weighs 580grams per tyre and is strong enough. Great weight/strength/price combo. Never heard someone having problems with them. Can be run front and back, or at the back with an Aspen Exception at the front.

 

CWC had the Ikon Exo for R550, don't know if they have stock.

I purchased the Continental X-King 29 x 2.4'' non-UST from the guys at EasyBike.

I slapped the tyre on the front with my current tubeless conversion from Stans' No Tube and it took first time.

The tyre burped on my first ride out on a rock, as I was running my usuall tyre pressure of 1.7bar.

After adjusting the pressure to 1.8bar it's been great - no issues so far, 200km down the line.
