For the second morning in a row, our training group has been the target of attempted hit and run. What the driver does is to see how close he can come past us and then swerves away again. Details as follows:

White Honda (could be Balade)

time - 05:20

Registration C? 44??? we suspect it is CL 44126 but cannot confirm this.

Direction from Brackenfell to Stellenbosch

OBVIOUSLY we are extremely concerned and wish to warn all fellow cyclists of the concern. We pride ourselves on our visibility - with reflective vests and several rear lights. We stay well within the Yellow line and where the line narrows - we ride single file.

Remember Cars dent cyclists DIE

Sh*t!

I've been on the receiving end of those drivers that try to cut it as closely as possible, with ample space to his/her right.

Some kind of statement or something.

Stellenbosch cops are quite paraat. Maybe phone them and ask if a car or bike could be out on the road at that time, keeping a look-out for the offender?

That is k*k - sorry to hear. I had a Merc do the same to me on the R44, plus hoot as he sped off. Nearly came off badly.

Hope you get a picture or something of him and can file a report - go with "attempted murder", that will get his attention and maybe make him think what he was doing.

It sucks that a positive manner is the right thing to do. :(

I can't think of a few negative ways in which to convince this bonehead that what he is doing is wrong.

Keep us posted please.

Found this

http://www.freepeoplesearch.co.za/numberplate-search-finding-the-owner-of-a-certain-vehicle-license-plate/

In conducting a number plate search, there are various online bodies which offer such a service. Marisit.co.za offers this service, which is quick and easy. Here, you insert the number plate into a search function, and pay R50 through EFT or credit card. The search then takes between 2 – 5 working days, and will return contact details for the registered owner of the vehicle. There are also various regional traffic departments which offer this service, for registered vehicles within that region only.

If I had the time I would come patrol that stretch for you guys....... not a cop or anything but I am sure a UK13 biker boot would leave a reminder :cursing:

I have had a few cases where I am riding in the yellow lane and cars come as close to the line as possible and then veer away after they pass.

Ah, motivation to get a GoPro mounted on my bars. Now to have my minister of finance agree  :whistling:
