it must hard keeping a triathlon only store going, how do you stop all the hype escaping each time a customer opens the door?

They learned pretty well from the cycling shops, who must be the masters of hype.

Tribes is a really fantastic shop. Nice layout, great range of brands and friendly and helpful staff.

SBR, much smaller range, great attitude.

Troisport, too important to deal with customers mostly. Only open till 2 on a Saturday. Apparently business isn't the priority here...

And if you think there is lots of hype in triathlon, come along and give it a try. Nothing to lose in experiencing something new.

Sums it up pretty well!

Been to:

Troisport a few times: Always gets the impression that they are doing me a favour to help me. Not a favourite place!

SBR: 2x (supplier sent them the wrong stuff, I gave up eventually - is a bit out of the way for me);

Tribe: 2x (bought items every time - very happy with service!) - They were(still are?) open on a Saturday afternoon!

The problem with Triathlon is the letters "TRI" the second that is mentioned in any product the price jumps up 3* what it should be. Having said that the other problem is that triathlon in SA is a growing sport but still not where it needs to be. So its up to economics limited demand high prices. Point is no shop can afford to concentrate only on triathlon you got to aim at a much broader market in order to ensure required turnover to pay tax, rent, salaries and hopefully some back pocket money for the owner. The broader market is cycling in general road and MTB. So NO is the answer its all economics.
