If you look at the caliper, how much space is there between the Rotor and the Pads.... I run my brakes with only about 2mm per pad/side, if that.

Also check that both your pads contact/engage the rotor at the same time.

Are they Race or Trail versions of the XTR, on the race versions you cant set the reach adjust, if they are trail versions check the reach is not all the way out...

I dont think pads will make a difference on both front and back, it seems to me that you require a good old bleed and adjust....

I have the M975 brakes, so I don't know if they have reach adjust? The pads are equally spaced on either side of the rotor and are both engaging when the lever is pulled. It's almost like it fades until the bike stops, which is likely to mean that a bleed is required. Will bleed the brakes tomorrow and if that doesn't do the trick, then I will get new pads...

hehehe I might have selected brake failure ;)

 can test your brakes by trying to dodge runners, walkers, dogs, ducks and all sorts of other thing on the spruit.....

So two schools of thought:

1. Bleed

2. Replace Pads

I think I should probably do both, but I don't have the money for both at the moment unless someone has a special on brake pads? I think I'm just going to try and bleed the brakes first, and then if that doesn't do the trick, get some new pads and then see how it goes

Not 100% familiar with your model but also check that the servowave adjustment is set midway when bleeding. You might want to check the effect adjusting it has on the bite point.
