Just push on the inner ring it will work. Have done that many times myself and that is what the lbs will do. There is no special tool to get that bearing out. Use a socket on the side you are pressing it from.

I mostly use a socket when one is able to get to the bearing from the other side. Must get ones of those extraction tools :-)

Just knock it out gently with a drift on the inner ring. the bearing is dirt cheap. just replace

Might have to try inner ring & hope bearing doesnt crumble ;)

the bearing won't fail just knock it out from the other side.

Your assussumption that the bearing will break up and then you sit with a stuck outer ring is possible. However, judging by the condition of those bearings I don't think it will happen. It happens on very vrot bearings with lots of rust. Those will come out easily. Give it a go. Knock carefully but firmly on opposite sides and make sure it doesn't drift out skew.

 

As for the welding trick - yes that works on big bearings but if you've ever tried to arc weld inside a 20mm tube like that of these bearings, you'll know that it is neigh impossible.

 

If we knew who you are and where you are based, I would have said come around, I'll sort it for you.

Bearings are almost ceased up ,sound like they running on stones.Need to get my rear shock serviced @ your place soon, so if i dont come right will bring triangle along then .

Boet i dont know where you are situated - was in a similar position myself and having extracted some bearings on my cars in the past learned the hard way that you can easily deface the part if you do not have the correct tool. the tool pictured above iwas made specifically with the Santa Cruz in mind but there is no reason why it should not work on other bikes as well as the bearings sizes used are normally the same. Problem is you need to import from the States (approx $45) and as you are not likely to use it every day it is not worthwhile taking the item to your LBS or even an car engineering place.

BTW these look like 6000 series bearings, any 1 know cost on these>?

6001Z BEARING FROM BMG will be about R17 ea for a decent Japanese bearing like NSK.

Those are 2 RS not ZZ. Former is better as it is a contact seal. ZZ from me - 80 bucks for 10 or 10 bucks each. I won't have 2RS until Tuesday.
