Riding kit. The basics are bib shorts and ride top. Any advice or recommendation on good/warm ride jackets to keep you dry and warm? First Ascent has some good jackets, but there again I am shopping around for something better than I currently use...??

Last year was a detour route I hear. I guess that is where most of the river crossings came in that is spoken about. What about the official Trans Baviaans Route? are there that many crossings as well? I believe there is a map that will be available to upload. Wondering if this would be able to be uploaded to my GArmin Edge??

Its the real Baviaans that have the crossings. The detour only had one big one

Has anyone done the Desert Dash as well as the TB? How do they compare as far as route difficulty is concerned? The Dash is 110km longer than TB and I completed that very comfortably in 19hours23min.

I know the guy who came 2nd at Desert Dash (and I think they were the 4th or 5th team at Baviaans). 14h18 for DD and 9:30 for Baviaans.

I think Baviaans is more difficult as there are some climbs, but there is little wind, and no sand.

Dont matter, 26er or 29 er , hard tail or dual, your ass will be sore no matter what.

Couldn't have said it better myself...

I've done one on my dual suspension and one on my hardtail (both 26'ers) and I can't remember one being more comfortable than the other. Over that distance, everything hurts no matter how comfortable the bike

Any suggestions on a warm riding jacket for the Trans Baviaans? .....

Both years I have gone with the 'layered' approach (so I can remove stuff if it gets too hot/uncomfortable). When I get to Bergplaas I change into a long sleeve shirt (t-shirt type material), arm warmers over that (so that the elastic doesn't rub your skin and eventually chafe) and then a long sleeved cycling jersey (the blue one that they gave us at Sani2C 2010)..... last year because it was colder I added a chest warmer and my First Ascent rain jacket over the lot. I was more than warm enough.

Does anybody have the full 20 week training programme that is on the Trans Baviaans site? On the site itself, it only provides the first 12 weeks.... Ok, ok, I am not entirely going to stick to it, but at least gives me an idea in which direction I should be training in the last few weeks.

Assuming nobody has sent this to you yet, you can PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you

The weather has been rather hectic over the past week!! Hoping things are going to really chill between now and then and that the Bav Kloof will start drying out. Really don't wanna do a detour! ... Apparently everything was looking good about 2 weeks back, roads and all. I can only imagine now!....Guess all part of the....um.....fun!

I know there were some recommendations for SealSkins socks. Any advice on this? Are they really worth the money? what are the alternatives?
