Crank Lenght, Road vs 26'er vs 29'er

I currently use a 172.5mm crank on my road bike and a 175mm on my Yeti ASR 26'er. Currently building a 29er and need to buy a new crank.

my question(s) is/are:

Will the crank lenght on the 29er be the same as the roadbike or the 26er?

Does it matter or will either work fine?

Used the Size my Bike app on iphone, and it got my roadbike setup spot-on.

It suggested a 175mm crank for the mtb.

A 'quick' search will show that this matter has been debated at length here on the hub and many other Interwebs sites, my understanding is that none of it was 'conclusive' ....

 

#ekwondermaarnet if the 'average bloke' such as myself would feel 2.5mm difference? I have changed from 175's on my MTB to 172.5's cause I got a good deal on a better crank and I doubt I have noticed anything .....

The only time when you use a 172.5 crank is when you have been for a professional assesment and they TELL you you have to use a 172.5.
