There was also the 5 Star down towards Muldersdrift. And the Top Star, now gone as well ... literally ... although that drive-in found another lease of life for a number of raves in the '90s.
scotty Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Listening earlier in the week Ster Kinekor stated the Velskoen was still making good money but the owners of the land decided it was more profitable to use for other uses. The introduction of TV was the start of drive ins closing, but encroaching commercialism and need for property encroached on the drive ins which were mostly built outside in open areas up to then plus the explosion of shopping malls where 3/4/5 cinemas offered movie goers a better choice.
