Hi,

Anyone know of where I could get one of these? Is thre an automotive equivalent?

I need to extract an old Stronglight bolt from a set of cranks in order to remove them, so that the frame can get prepped for respray (an old track frame)

According to the Sheldon Brown website I would need the above in 16mm.

I have the 16mm socket, but it doesn't fit in the opening, and both my crank pullers(shimano and bbb) do not fit the bolt that needs extracting.

Is there an alternative crank puller I could use?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I found that a gedore socket worked on my old raleigh cheapie that also needed a bolt tightened inside the BB part of the crank.

maybe take the bike or frame with you to a hardware store and ask if you could check if one of the sockets would work before you buy it. I'm sure one of the sales staff would be able to help

Excellent. Will definitely try the Gedore, otherwise have a bench grinder, so can work on an old socket.

The right hand bolt is a Sugino 75, the left, I think, came stock with the zeus track crankset.

Odd thing is I had a set of stronglight cranks on an old Fiorelli track bike I had, and the shimano extractor worked fine...

Go figure!

Some of the cheaper crank pullers have such a socket built in. They call it a 3-in-one. Look for it at cheapo bike shops and supermarkets.

Don't start grinding your 16 until you're sure it is a 16. The purpose-built double-sided Suntour track spanner I have here is 14 and 15mm.

You may not even have a 15mm socket in your set. They're somewhat odd.

As usual, Johan was right.

I took a vernier caliper and measured: it was 15mm.

I ground down a Gedore 15mm spanner, worked like a charm!

BB is out, frame is being prepped for refinish.

Thanks for all advice.

Now mark that socket with red nailpolish so you will know that this is your custom made thin walled socket
