Every morning in Randburg

So, every morning in Randburg, specifically in Linden and Blairgowrie, I see a number of cycling lights flashing at me while I drive to work or gym and this made me realise that I'm losing out on the fun (espesially in the winter).

 

Who rides here during the week?

Is it club or voluntary riders?

Where do everybody meet?

How far? What time start and end? The average speed?

I only ride MTB through Blairgowrie and Linden along the Spruit these days! But I used to ride with a road group who started in Craighall at the big circle on Buckingham Rd.

There are a couple of groups that come through Linden & Blairgowrie during the week, Illovo Cycling group that leave from MacDonalds in Rosebank, the Engen group that leave the Engen in Main Rd (just off William Nicol) and also Dunkeld that I imagine leave from Dunkeld Shopping Centre.

I think it was about 30kms.

 

I really liked th route:

Craighall. Blairgowrie. Linden. Albertville. Emmerentia. Millpark hospital. Jhb zoo. Rosebank. Craighall.

If it's my light you saw, I was commuting from Ferndale through the spruit to Parktown. I'm the big packpack and the bigger grin in delta park

There are at least 3 big groups that regularly ride through that area in the am, and a couple of smaller ones.

 

Cyclelab

Dunkeld - they used to start from the circle in craighall park, but now I think they start at the dunkeld centre at 5:30am - Merlyn at dunkeld cycles will know

The Illovo group - starts at Mcdonalds on Oxford at the top of glenhove - 5am tuesday - friday - hubber jmaccelari ropes them together

There is at least 1 group that start in Linden as well - see them some mornings too

As mentioned there are plenty of groups that use that route (and variations on it). We have a small group that does that route but also climbs to the top of Northcliff and Jo'Burg Gen hospital. our route is nearly 40km. Dunkeld cycles group still leaves from Buckingham circle at 5h00 on Wed and 5h15 on Friday with a mix of pace so you should find your comfort zone.
