  1. I made a note of 4 teams like that during a short 20 mins of watching the prologue on TV. Only 1 of those 4 teams finished
  2. I've been waiting for my Canyon for 9 months and have tried every channel including the local agents to resolve that delay Now after their 4th delivery delay I've posted on social media for the first time. My Canyon might be delivered in May, 11 months after I ordered it and I have paid over R80k. I think I'm entitled to express my frustrations.
  3. You're taking my comment out of context. I was responding to the prior assertion that there are only problems with the Lux and Neuron models. This site details complaints on ALL their models and yes it's obviously a site people mostly go to to complain about poor service. That's the nature of all sites like that including this here BikeHub.
  4. I have no doubt it's a very good bike - that's why I ordered it. But I refuse to be treated like this any longer and if this is how they treat you when they're selling you a bike imagine how they'll treat you when you need to claim on a warranty.
  5. Take a read through this and you'll see it's across all their products. 65% of 584 respondents rate their experience with Canyon as Poor to Bad. https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.canyon.com
  6. To add insult to injury I see that the model I have been waiting for all this time is available ex-stock on the Canyon US site. They've changed the groupset to SRAM to get around the Shimano XTR debacle. So if I want one in the US I can order now, get free delivery and my bike possibly within a few days but Canyon can't prioritise their stock for someone who ordered the same bike 9 months ago... !? I'm beyond p*ssed off! https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mtb/lux/lux-cf-sl-8-0-pro-race
  7. There are literally hundreds of posts like mine all over social media around the world. Canyon are clearly incapable of resolving all their issues. I understand the issue with XTR cranks and Shimano have let them and other manufacturers down. But those other manufacturers have made alternative plans for their customers or ditched Shimano in favour of SRAM. But the Canyon complaints are not limited to their XTR specced bikes but are right across all their products.
  8. I met Erik at Sprocket & Jack a couple of weeks ago at a Canyon demo day. Nice guy and passionate about the Canyon brand. He's aware of the problems but there's nothing he can do about it. Can't be nice for him having recently taken on the brand here in SA and it's getting such bad press.
  9. Estimated dispatch date 24th - 28th Sep 2018 Estimated dispatch date 24th - 28th Dec 2018 Your order is almost ready Estimated dispatch date 31st Dec 2018 - 04th Jan 2019 Estimated dispatch date 22nd - 26th Apr 2019 Estimated dispatch date 13th - 17th May 2019
  10. 12 months ago I saw the new prototype Canyon Lux at the 2018 Cape Epic. I loved what I saw and decided this was my next bike. In June 2018 Canyon announced their new Lux and I ordered the Lux SL 8.0 the very next day. Delivery was 3 months later in September but I thought it was worth the wait. My delivery date came only to receive a last minute email to say that due to various reasons the order would be delayed by another 3 months to Dec 2018. I was very disappointed but decided to not cancel the order and wait. Middle of Dec came and I was told the order was delayed to the end of Dec. End of Dec came and I received another email to say very sorry due to issues with the supply of XTR cranks they were sourcing other cranks and the order has been delayed for a further 4 months to April 2019...! At that stage I seriously contemplated cancelling the order and taking advantage of some really good deals on some close out 2018 models. Bikes I could actually see and touch in the bike shop and take home with me immediately. But I thought there cannot be any more delays and with no important races on the calendar and with my old bike still hanging in there I thought I would wait just a little(?) bit longer. And guess what!? - yesterday I receive another email to say the order has been further delayed to May 2019. So I 'might' receive my bike over 11 months(!) since I ordered it. 11 months! I'm out of pocket for a few thousand Euro and I have nothing to show for it My friends told me to cancel my order last year already and get my money back. I was offered some really great bikes but I believed in the Canyon product and that each delay would be the last. Needless to say I now regret those decisions and I now have no faith in any of Canyon's commitments to me - they've delayed my order four times now so delaying it a fifth time probably won't make a difference to them. I'll will probably cancel my order and buy a bike that I can actually see and touch in a bike shop. I have friends with Grails and Ultimates who love their Canyons but unfortunately after waiting for a bike I ordered and paid for 9+ months ago with no guarantee when and if I will ever get it, I cannot recommend Canyon to anyone. In fact I would have to strongly suggest you spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
  11. I've got an old steel MTB frame I'm happy to donate. In Rosebank JHB area. If there's any interest I can take pics and send more details on the frame?
  12. I wouldn't take any of the fitness or fatigue scores as a real indicator of your fitness. I went into last year's Epic with a Strava fitness score of 58 and finished in the top 150 as a 50 year old. Use it as a tool to measure your progress but the actual number is not that important. Good luck for the race. Make the most of it. You need to get to day 5 in reasonably good shape. If you're exhausted by then you are going to lose chunks of time the last 3 days and you will hate those days. We started the race outside the top 200 and steadily worked our way up the leaderboard eventually getting into the top 150 on day 7. This was as much about us moving up the board by maintaining our pace over 8 days as it was dozens of riders who had gone from being in the top 150 for the first 4 days, to struggling to make the top 250 towards the end.
  13. XTR 12 speed 10 - 51 cassette made of titanium
  14. My second year doing this race and just reinforces my opinion that it must be the most fun you can have in a 3 day stage race. Unlike Sani2C and Berg n Bush which have been sanitised to the point that you can ride a CX bike on the trail, this is real mountain biking with some seriously challenging but fun riding. Families are welcome in the race village which is not something you will find as easily in other races. Whereas I got bored with Sani and BnB as they got dumbed down year after year, I can't see myself getting bored with this race for quite a while to come. Highly recommended!
  15. Been racing with Racing Ralphs for years all around the country with essentially no problems at all. Front Ron;rear Ralph
  16. You didn't just compare how Zuma runs this country to a race organiser whose product is in demand in just about every corner of the world did you? Greedy business people; race organisers, manufacturers and others wanting to make money for themselves - imagine that. Do you work out of the goodness of your heart or do you expect/hope/plan to get paid as much as possible for the work/service you provide? That's a rhetorical question BTW. I don't apologise for anyone. They do what they do. You might not like it but if enough people do then they're doing something right. I have no ideas what my ACE is? For the record I rode Epic on my own money 4 years ago. Loved it but decided it offered poor bang for buck and wouldn't ride it again with my own money. I rode the race this year fully-sponsored and loved it again but it just reinforced my conviction that I would not do the Epic with my own money. Tankwa Trek is a superior race in every respect. Joberg2C is far more enjoyable; 3 Towers is way more fun etc etc
  17. That's my point. The organisers can sell this race out multiple times so why are you filled with shock & disbelief with the product they deliver? Clearly more than enough people feel they are getting what they pay for. Not difficult to comprehend? You might disagree but that's irrelevant to the current reality. In your naive Utopian existence the the common public might deserve the same treatment, but in the real world of sponsors, media rights, professional works teams, charities and good old-fashioned nepotism, that will never happen on a race of this scale and stature.
  18. FFS I'd forgotten what a bunch of cry babies populate this forum. The same who whinge about race prices, and bike shop owners who dare charge them when they just 'pop in' on a Saturday morning with their dirty bike expecting the owner to just drop everything and help them. The same lot who diss races they've never done or bikes they've never ridden. Who complain when there's a bottleneck at a race, but don't want to put in the hours of training to get seeded in bunches where there are no bottle necks The Epic is what it is; an unashamedly commercialistic event. They will give you the best product they can within the return they need to make on their investment. That means looking after their sponsors and their guests and giving the rest the best they think they can get away with. If you do the race expecting anything else you're naive and ignorant to the nature of professional sports. You either choose to accept that and do the race, or you don't and you don't do it. This is not complicated I promise. But FFS dont do it and then whine because you're too lazy/busy/cool to carry your own water bottle to the table which you filled up at the water bowser outside filled with thousands of litres of fresh, clean, environmentely friendly, drinking water.
  19. A strong young (34) Dutch rider died on the first day of Tankwa Trek a month ago. He was on blood thinning medication. I know he didn't crash but I haven't heard what the cause of death of. Also your Doctor can't say to you 'Dont' crash'. You ride your bike, you WILL crash at some stage. Normal falls, abrasions etc are no problem but a big blow to your head may result in a small bleed on the brain which would normally coagulate quickly leaving you with little more than concussion. On blood thinners that bled will not coagulate quickly enough. If you're lucky that small brain bleed will kill you; if not it may well leave you with a severe brain injury with all the devastating consequences that go with that. So riding any form of ride where it may be technical or you're at the mercy of other riders or road users' mistakes means you will fall at some stage. It all depends on how lucky you feel taking the chance of how serious that fall might be.
  20. Condolences to the deceased rider The new route is fantastic; a real challenge in every respect. The water tables on the other hand are extremely poor. There were a few occasions where they either had no water or only water. They had no chain lube and the only effort at providing food were a few token bananas lying on the table. This is unacceptable for race of this stature. A few boiled potatoes, maybe some more fruit, some fruit cake would not cost a lot of money but would make a huge difference to the ride rather than expecting riders to carry piles of food in their pockets. If this was the case then tell the riders, that unlike pretty much all other MTB races, there is no food at all, so you need to make your own plans.
  21. So after 5 years at last a 1x system offers the range of a 2x system but at what cost? This review is incomplete with no mention of what it's like to have an 8 tooth ramp between the 42t and 50t cogs and before that the 6 tooth ramp from 36t to 42t. This is one of the most obvious and serious shortcomings of any 1x system and too often I hear of riders complaining of being between gears.
