Not a bad idea. I just hope they have done their homework and this is something that they can legally do. So many times you see goverment talk the hard talk but when it comes to executing their plans they run up agains the law.

In english, the fine is R5000! Why is the fine in afr cheaper??

Compared the english and afr reports on the same site and there is a distinct difference in fine.

From what I can make out of the campaign they basically confiscate the device, seal it, and book it in at the Greenpoint Traffic Department.

I assume it will work on the same principle where something gets booked in at the SAPS into their SAP13 store.

Details of the rightful owner, time, date and circumstances in which the item/s were taken into possession and details of the confiscating offical are all recorded in a register.

When you want to claim your item/s you need to supply proof of identity, and often also proof of ownership.

In this instance the proof of ownership will have to be accompanied with proof of payment of the R500-00 fine.

I can just imagine a lot of people are going to be very upset with having their devices confiscated, even if they are in the wrong, and are breaking a law that has been in place for some time now.

It is also going to open up a whole can of smelly worms, where people are going to attempt to bribe their way out of having their devices confiscated.

Traffic officials are either going to make bundles of extra money for themselves, or a lot o people are going to be prosecuted for attempting to bribe Police and/or Traffic officials.

It is anyones' guess as to where this is going to end.

Ai Eccentric ... this is on very safe secluded/isolated cycling lanes and rarely performed. Although I can ride all the way to town without having to lay my hands on the handle bars, I don't however do this.
