Ridden the Red Route a few times over the last week. Absolutely stunning with nice variation and a mix of everything one could want in a 24 km ride.

Just one thing, the single track in some sections is littered with exposed roots which are very wet and slippery. In my view these slippery roots detract from the flow and therefore the enjoyment of the otherwise great track.

Has the Sani2C spoiled us by being root free? What are your views on too much root on your route?

Might be doing the Red route this weekend..

Anybody know what the conditions are like at the moment? muddy?

Also how long does it really take for an above average fit male to complete the route...? Website says 3-5 hours

There is no such thing, the roots are part of what make the Red Route what it is.

A possible exception is Val di Sole if you're anything other than a pro DHer...

I'm closer to average and it takes me less than 2 hours.

I did the red route on Sunday as part of the Knysna 200 and it was very muddy. Not sure if it has dried up yet

I'm very average, and the last time I was in the area it took me 1.5hrs on my 16kg Enduro Machine

Green route should be better

I will also be there this weekend but not part of the fattracks group there too over the weekend. Trails are going to be busy I think.

I'm looking forward to it but with my wife so the red route will have to wait till some other time I think.

I must have ridden the red route 15 times, and to me it flows brilliantly. Perhaps it is because I spend two hours a week on skills, and my suspension is properly set up as well. I also ride a trail bike, but I deserve a good quality ride, because I work hard on the hills with a heavy bike.

I have found that on the red route, there are quite a few places where you can use some of the larger roots as lauch pads, and by doing that you can jump over many other roots that might have hampered your progress. Proper bunny hop technique is also crucial if you want to keep the flow on that trail.

Oh heavens forbid a few roots force one to improve on their technical abilities... Yes, sani2c has spoilt you. Walk the root sections, choose an appropriate line and practice riding through that type of obstacle. You may even have a bit of fun. HTFU

Did the Garden Route 300 beginning of this year and loved every bit of that route. The Red Route on day one was technical and slippery but not so bad that it had me pushing. It drained my energy for the rest of the 104km route but it was fun!
