As much as I dislike Golf's, they have proven thenselves over and over, once you have it sorted will run and run.

 

Very little electronics, thus most of the repairs can be done yourself fairly cheap;

sort it out, dont buy someone else problems.

Only weighs 1.2-is tons, 170 kw with a short ratio gearbox....which accounts for the fuel consumption.

 

It is a lot of fun though....and does give about 7-8 km/l when I hit the highway....about the same as a 1300 Citi golf it would seem

There are 2 types of people, those who love Citi's and those who hate them. Still stays the car that was the longest in production, a whole 25 years.

My 2005 1.4 carb gives me between 11kml - 15kml.

 

My Golf has an 1800 injection (old K jetronic type, 1983) motor bored and stroked to 2L, it has a cam and some work to the head as well as a K&N air filter and performance exhaust. I am not an economical driver but I get 10L/100km

Chris did you ever have any issues with leaking injectors or difficult starting on the K-jet motor? My father's 1990 Cli Jetta mk2 which he will never sell has developed a bad starting when it has been standing for 2 days or more (now the next day). The mechanic is still batteling to find the problem.

Does look neat from being in Ixopo or wherever inland NX might have been. Hopefully JBay doesn't kill it. I always pop over to the Benz club at Cars in The Park at Zwartkops to look at the nice 2 door cars, will again next Sunday..
