Hi, this is my first post and I figured i'd post it here since i'l be spending 95% of my time in this section:

I live in Cape Town, like doing jumps and ride downhill on my XC bike because I'm 15 and my parents aren't super rich.

I also wanted to ask what would a good BMX would be for around R2000? I'm willing to pay a bit more, but R2500 would be my limit. I heard that I should go for something thats full chromoly, but I would take anything thats lasts more than 6 months.

Things i've looked at include the following links:

And this bike on gumtree looked pretty good:

Thanks in advance for any advice

Ps. I'l be using it at the UCT jumps and riding some street

Hey Skiddie

Dont import a bmx bike, it will cost you too much, there are very good bikes available locally.

This WTP will be a great start up bike and will last you quite a long time.

Maybe a bit expensive

Firstly welcome to the forum and secondly, have you taken a look at dial'd bikes? They have suppliers who also supply BMX bikes, great bunch of guys and I am sure they would be more than happy to assist you

Thanks for the replies, as i said my budget is R2000 and R2500 if i'm pushing it to the max. My budget really is super tight.

I might be looking into that WTP 4season bike, but what do you guys think about the bike in the gumtree link I posted?

Yeh, its really hard to choose though since the only first hand south african bmx that could find to fit my budget was the mongoose logo from theriot, and i wouldn't count on that lasting me 6 months. I think i'l take that WTP. Looks like a really sollid bike, unless someone else has a suggestion?

EDIT:

I think I just died a little inside after watching this:

Yeah, i would be really happy to help with any building or maintenance etc. I would love any exposure to the whole DJ scene really.

I'l remember to pack it in next time (no pun intended)

Yeah i'm kinda starting to lose patience.

90% of the second hand bikes look like they have been through WW2 or their owners are either reluctant/hesitant(?) on selling them and don't mail or call me back.

First hand is pretty much out of the equation. The only bikes seem to be the ones on TheRiot and that's just mongoose bikes nuff' said. The only bike I have actually seen with my own eyes was a Blank Ammo going for R4000 which is way to much.

I've tried to getting a job at various places but in Cape Town thats pretty much impossible for a 15 year old :(

Rofl. Yeah, child labour is pretty much frowned upon!

What i did see this morning was a couple of fellas at the gate at tokai offering bike washes for R 20. Funds to go towards getting them some bikes... If i had had a 20 on me I woulda gone for it!

Yeah its pretty sad, the total costs of my current mtb being repaired for the last 3 months have probably been around R4000, its been at the shop more than at my house.

And yeah screw child labour laws and permits and stuff, i wouldnt mind working 10 hours a day for R20 payment, i just want a new bike

eh sorry for wasting your time my parents arent gonna buy me a bmx because they want me to get into XC, which i despise.

Better than having no bike at all I guess
