Any of you guys ridden on the R72 from PE to East London?

Looking for something more scenic to get to East London.

You mean in a car or on a bicycle? definately a nicer (and quicker) drive than going on the N2 which takes you inland via Grahamstown. That said both roads have apparently taken a real hammering with the floods etc. N2 is closed and R72 is open to light vehciles with some stop/go's. Sure by Xmas holidays the R72 should be sorted though - there are usually a few patches with potholes on the EL side of Port Alfred but not too bad. Edited by dracs

I am getting a little worried about my training. I am way behind compared to last year this time. It is taking a lot longer that I thought to get myself (and my knee) running fit after my knee operation. I am currently on 5km as my longest run! I do not want to force the distances/speed and end up with another injury. I am hoping to do a 10km race in 2 weeks time. Swimming is going ok and I am at 2-3 sessions a week. Cycling, at this stage, is limited to indoor training due to weather and work commitments. I am hoping to increase my training sessions substantially from next week, otherwise I am not sure I will be ready come 20 Jan.

11 Weeks to go. How is your training going guys?

I would say my progress looks like this:

Swim: 65%

Bike: 55%

Run: 20%

of where I want to be by 20 Jan. So lots of hard work lying ahead during Nov/Dec, but at least I have been sticking to my training program for the past 2 weeks and I am still slowly building on my run distances.

Im in the same boat as you ADe. Im more or less at the same levels. Maybe a bit less on the bike.

Ja Nee... Me something like this: Swim 50%, Bike 75%, run 15%....

As soon as I up the run distance I seem to get aches and pains /sore ankles etc. So been keeping the runs short in an effort to get the ligaments etc acclimatised, did one 10+k run last week and now I'm sitting with a a sore ankle again. thumbdown.gif

I hope less than last year or else it will be a draft legal race again?w00t.gif

I hope so too.

On a side note.

I'll never forget, last year, when in transition, someone mistakenly took someone else bike bag. Man was that guy pissed. And understandingly too, for time was lost to him.

It happened to me as well. A few years back when ir rained so much! All the numbers got washed off and some prick decided to search and destroy T-bags. If I found him I would have T-Bagged him

I also have that issue. I'm keeping my distances short (5-7km) and building base. Did GunRun and it actually went okay... 2:18. It's not super fast but at least I was able to run 95% of the time. So I'm gonna continue with the shorter distances for now, and then maybe ramp it up in Dec and seeing how it goes.
