Hi there guys...

I am busy doing some research into the feasibility of a MTB trail venue close to Grahamstown, and want to find out if anyone would be prepared to help out with the market research?

Thanks so much!!

Guys, im looking to open a dedicated MTB venue close to Grahamstown, and need some support with this, to prove to the farm owner that it's a worthwhile idea, to get the thing off the ground!!

It will, hopefully, be something similar to Groenkloof, or similar places, where you can ride in peace! It will be ideal for holiday getaways with the family, all throughout the year!

I really look forward to some positive assistance here!

Hi there

I can send you a few contacts of regular riders in the region and you can ask them directly as we are just busy with a mtb trail route guide for the area

I would really appreciate that, thanks!!

I wanted to do this, cos I haven't really seen much in terms of actual routes down there. Apparently ppl ride mostly on farm roads, there isn't a dedicated venue. But I'm guessing that the only way to find out is to actually dO the investigations!!!

Cheers, thanks!

We go to Port Alfred fairly often, we would drive to Grahamstown if there is a decent route

Would you be willing to complete a short survey, to help determine the interest in the area?

I go to Bushmans for holiday quite often and since last Dec/Jan I have been riding around there. There is a farm just outside Port Alfred which also has trails (I do rides there with the owner of Cycle shop in Port Alfred).

I will deffo support trails around the area! I also do the Kenton on Sea to Bathurst ride - it is beyond beautiful country there!

I am in Busmans from the 20th Sept (next week) till the 24th and I am taking my MTB so if you want me to go ride some of the routes with you I am more than willing to do so...pm me..

Guys, surely with over 100 views, there must be more than the handful of people who responded, that have an interest in MTB down near Grahamstown??

Come on, help a brother out here!!

I studied in G'Town. If I had been into MTB back then, I would have loved to have had trails around. There certainly is some great terrain for it.

I think you should approach the university sports admin. See if they have any cycling clubs, and if not, then try and get one established for the students. Once you've got that, setting up trails will be a breeze.

Believe it or not, the students are lacking and craving alternative entertainment/activities in the town (hence the huge drinking), and if you manage to set up something with the university, I am sure they will support you fully. The university would love it too, especially if you can pull a few of the students out of the pubs. I ran a paintball business when there, and that was very popular, so I don't see why MTB won't be supported.

I have emailed some contacts that I managed to get, at the uni, and am hoping that they will get back to me soon.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think the University is the key in the entire plan!

I ride around the Kasouga / Kenton / Grahamstown / Bathurst / Alex / Woody Cape general area for a few weeks most years. Trails would be great. Maybe talk to Charles Keey who runs the Blend Property mtb team. He is often based out of Kenton as his folks live there.

There was a Rhodes University Cycling Club some years back. Not sure how big it was. There was a mate of mate, and very occassional hubber (Afronaught), who was involved, but he's overseas now. Not sure how big it was.

Got into cycling again during my studies there (late 80s-early 90s), but mainly hit district roads or bombed down Mountain Drive.

I want to incorporate some of the district roads in the area into the facilities and trails anyway, to allow for a multi-level riding experience, from beginner to advanced rider...

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
