Anyone else suffered from this?

 

I've had this issue for a while now, thought it was from running down mountains, so cycled more with no improvement. Stopped cycling for two months, and have been running for the past two months without any pain.

 

Rode yesterday, and guess what, the pain is back.

 

Anyone know if this is a set up problem or whether it is simply an overuse issue? I'm planning to go for a bike set up to see if this helps. Thing is I've had my bike for a while with no problems until start of this year.

Has it been properly diagnosed by a specialist as bursitis?

 

A lot of hip pain can be attributed to a tight TFL that often just needs some trigger point release using a foam roller or seeing a physio.

Agreed, go see a physio or a sport massage specialist. Mine was diagnosed as very likely bursitus - in the end it was extreme glute and TFL stiffness from an accident, accomponied by ramping up training.

 

Get it looked at, because with me what drove me there was the ITB that was excruciating - but that was just a result of the above. And you don't want to go there.

Oiy, Dangle, don't be so pessimistic... I had 100% confirmed (scans and X-rays) bursitis in my hip staring April this year. I didn't listen to the doc at first and after 6 weeks rest and just a little bit of training I tried to do the Kremetart. Needless to say this had me back at the doc and at a biokineticist and a physio. Accepted, I'm only on 50km rides now but it does appear that a very slow recovery program works. I did spend the first month on anti-inflamatories and I was only allowed to use stairs for even only 1 floor after 6 weeks, but it does look as though I will manage to do the 94.7 without pain (provided I continue with this slow and careful program)

 

Proper diagnosis is definitely the first step to recovery, as is a very conservative recovery program.
