  1. At least I'm not the one reviving this thread... Its worse than processed overseas... it's just 'washed' overseas. The wool is sent to China to be washed and then shipped back to the mill in South Africa to be spun. The mind boggles. That said, I'm a huge fan of merino. I disagree that it's not durable my stuff seems to have lasted really well. Both the icebreaker kit as well as the locally (homemade) jerseys etc.
  2. So I got my daughter a volcano 1080 extreme camera about 18 months ago. This is one of her vids. I thought the quality was pretty good for the price!
  3. I bought a pair of ciovita supremo bibs just before the trans baviaans. My backside was comfortable for the whole ride, I never thought bibs could make such a difference! Last couple years I rode in enjoy bibs and loved them... up until 175km! I think that's pretty good as well. But the ciovitas were even more comfortable! Even when the chamois got wet. Conditions weren't great... So although can recommend enjoy bibs, the ciovitas are just that much better.
  4. All open, was up there this morning. The gate at the start of the Rhodes Mem climb was locked though, but easy enough to get a bike over. Not the first time it's been locked in the morning sanparks seems to be struggling here...
  5. You can always get around the high cost of insurance by buying an off road bike. These (and harley) are insured at much lower rates than road bikes, especially sport bikes.
  6. I see they missed the cannons at the queen's blockhouse. Oversight or intentional display of patriarchal monarchism???
  7. I had a fun morning. Last minute entry that someone else paid for got me into the race. We did the 35km which was a great tour of the Lourensford fire roads. I couldn't help feel somewhat cheated riding past what liked like amazing single track! I think the organisers could have done a far better job of being a bit more creative with the route planning. I would have been proper bummed if I'd spent R800 for that ride... (Entry plus diesel). Burger was amazing and we had no queue for this. Also wasn't charged for parking, would have been a bummer though had this been the case. In retrospect, I should have turned right at the 50km turn off!
  8. https://www.geewiz.co.za/categories/153291-amazfit-t-rex-pro-gps-smartwatch-meteorite-black.html My mate just bought one. Great piece of kit at the price.
  9. You stole my post, Andrew! I rode it this week and the exit is more technical than its been in years!
  10. One very lucky lady that! I saw that crash and stopped to assist. I was expecting far more severe injuries and possibly a fatality! I think she was fine except for a cut on her finger!
  11. Hi Everyone, I'm riding for a charity this year, the Rohan Bloom Foundation. It is an incredibly worthwhile charity focused on support for children with cancer. If you would like to support, please use this backabuddy link. https://www.backabuddy.co.za/jason-ride4rohan2021
  12. This thread has made me realise one thing. The Cape Epic really is the Mount Everest of mountain biking. Someone hears you ride, they ask whether you've done the epic. Someone hears you climb, they ask if you wanna do everest. They both lack technical difficulty. They boat cost a whole lot more than the fun alternatives. They both oversubscribed. Neither seems like much fun.
  13. OK, there are some options that may allow for that, problem is its not allowed. The hiking trails don't really lend themselves to riding unless you happy to do lots of walking. I have some ideas though, DM me if you interested.
  14. Sandrif trails are great. Do the black, its tough but worth it! Kromriver trails are also well worth it, the single track from the top of the pass down is lekker fast! The route around Sugarloaf is a treat, good climb up and amazing views. Fun single track down. If I had one day of riding I'd do the kromriver trails.
  15. If you still have it, it's exactly what I'm looking for!
  16. I cycled over a pair of sunglasses this morning on Table Mountain. Fortunately, my bunny hop skills are adequate and the sunglasses remain unscathed. Had it been my less skilled mate Darren the sunglasses would have been crushed by his heavy ebike. If you lost a pair DM me.
  17. Woodstock cycles are really good when it comes to wheels (and everything else)!
  18. Saw this post by TM bikers today. Can't believe something like this can happen. We’re not thrilled with the Deer Park to Rhodes Memorial area being closed. We want to keep riding around the mountain as we usually do.But,it is closed for rehabilitation work and San Parks have asked us to please request that everyone respect the closure and respect the SP staff & contractors that are doing the work they’ve been tasked with. There have been some heated exchanges between trail users and SP rangers, but when a female ranger is accosted and pushed to the ground and another female ranger has stones thrown at her, that’s when a line has been crossed. This type of behaviour is not warranted under any circumstances and certainly not representative of the mountain bike community. Air your frustrations verbally, but keep it civil please. Sections of the trail will reopen, from an email received from the area manager, over a 2-3 month period.Speaking to a section ranger a few hours later,it seems areas can open up in a few weeks time. This refers to hiking routes and cycling routes. We can’t be more specific than this, because we don’t have more concrete information at hand. We’re putting this request out there without prejudice. Please just be respectful of the person you’re dealing with.
  19. In my experience, bigger is better! I went to 203mm up front and brakes went from good to great! My wife's bike was originally 180f and 160r. Putting a 180mm rotor on the rear of her trail bike made a noticeable difference. She weighs like 56kg and noticed the difference.
  20. As far as I know, Newlands Forest is open. But closed to the left (fire side) at access points e.g. At a point on the contour path. Open to access the mtb route to Kirstenbosch.
  21. Getting very busy at the arch lately! I ran past the arch recently three parties had overnighted there the previous night. I was so P'd off to find that one party had lit a lit a fire overnight and had left a pile of warm coals. Fortunately for them, they had already left when I got there! One of the other parties had actually questioned whether it was legal to light a fire, with no luck. Some people just don't get it.
  22. Thanks, I'll definitely give you shout. I'm always happy to support a small local business!
  23. Sure. I deal with bikesure, they specialise in motorcycles and bicycles. They've placed me with cyclesure as a stand alone policy, as well as with discovery as part of a household policy. Always happy to shop around for the best price. I've had a couple of mtb claims all dealt with quickly and professionally. Try Stuart on 0834616856 or Bevan on 0834614200.
  24. DM, I am happy to share my experience and broker's details. Specialist bike brokerage.
  25. How do I buy this? I'd love to try your coffee! Are you in Cape Town?
