biker_boy Posted September 18, 2012 Share Hi Guys & Gals, please advise me on this. I want to buy a new Mountain Bike or a good second hand one. I have an old style MTB bikes but want thwe new frames with hydraulic disc brake & fork springs etc. At this stage I just want to do road riding & would eventually want to ride on light trails, nothing heavy like downhill trails. I weigh just over 100kgs & am 1.77m tall. Your inputs are greatly needed.

KevinRhino Posted September 20, 2012 Share You will be able to get a better spec bike for your budget if you look for a good second hand bike.

dev null Posted September 20, 2012 Share The cheapest Silverback with that spec is the Spectra 3.0 I believe, but that goes for around R7000.

Pants Boy Posted September 20, 2012 Share Axis - I've got teh A60 with Shimano BRM445 hydro brakes and Suntour XCM fork. Paid R40K for it new.
Ibicam Posted September 20, 2012 Share Based on another post I read recently, Makro and Game are starting to stock some decent 29er entry level bikes at your price range. With hydraulic brakes, and Suntour XCM fork. 27 speed which I reckon for entry level is not bad at all.Just remember your hydraulic brakes will be a bit more maintenance longer term than cable disc brakes, but they do work far better, imo. http://www.guzzle.co.za/specials/view/188454/ has the ad with high level specs. scotty Posted September 20, 2012 Share & you're going to let it go for between R3 & R4.5K?I think he meant R4K not R40K. Solomons have it for R3999.99. Edited September 20, 2012 by scotty

Pants Boy Posted September 20, 2012 Share Fork sorry 'bout that it was R3999.2013 models is around R4300 and has (slightly) better spec. Also a new A50 has been added to the range, no idea on price though.
braailegend Posted September 20, 2012 Share Get a friend that knows his bikes, there are some sweet 2nd hand deals out there. Cheap bikes are just that, cheap... and not very cheerfull Just one example of something that will ride better, although there are much better deals out there:http://capetown-westerncape.gumtree.co.za/c-Sports-Leisure-sports-bicycles-fitness-Giant-26-Inch-large-W0QQAdIdZ414744752 Edited September 20, 2012 by braailegend
