I am a bit concerned that the freehub ratchet is getting louder and does not seem to turn as smoothly as before. When you hand-turn the freehub it feels like there is a lot of grittiness inside. I have taken off the cassette with no problems at all. How do I remove the freehub for servicing?

They are supposed to be DTswiss 350 hubs on the rear - start with that manual and you should be good.

i am nervous to open mine after the hill2hill mud spa bath.... maybe this weekend.. maybe not...

What hubs has those wheels got, if its DT swiss I think the free wheel body is a press fit (O-ring inside the free wheel body). So you should be able to pull it off if you can find a way to clamp the wheel or hub allowing you to pull without damaging anything.

Check for the manual for the procedure on dt swiss website

Hi SwissVan! The hubs are DT Swiss but which ones? This is a good question There are no other markings except XR29. I'll check out the website thanks.

Thanks for that bit of advice! I pulled out of the hill2hill after all that rain we had. All our normal routes and river crossings have been washed away. I believe out of 400 odd - 60% pulled out (me) - then 40% after that failed to finish - the rest have their bikes in for repairs.

I've got 240's and wanted to do the same as the OP but could not get my cassette off (yet) due to the lockring being to tight. Have not had a chance yet to take back to the bike shop who fitted it.

Here's the thread with some more usefull info regarding DT freewheel...

I saw your posting and think you need to punish that clown who serviced your hubs before. My cassette came off easy as pie but I am a bit worried putting force onto the freehub by pulling it off. I suppose its piss easy once you've seen how its done but all the shops tell you to leave it there and come back later. Thats pointless.

There are a few people in for repairs too - mate of mine broke a shoulder blade, and I saw a couple of big falls too on the ride - good lesson in bike handling and riding sensibly.

That damn lockring is so damn tight you cannot believe it.

Funny enough the guy that installed the cassette is a top grade bike mechanic and it really baffles me as to why it is so tight. When i find out why I'll update the thread...
