The thing is, have you heard of ANY stories of cyclists being hijacked by a white person, ever?

Indeedy, urbanroyal. It's too easy to blame 'black hijackers' and forgetting about the 'white sellers' and 'white buyers' - not saying any of the three statements are true, but it's too easy stereotyping without looking at the COMPLETE picture.

Frankly, if I have a gun at my head with the holder of said gun demanding my bike and other stuff. I don't give a sh~t what color (s)he is. I think the race is irrelevant here.

Like @Riaan Coetzee said, white guys are buying or selling the stolen bikes and parts. Dunno about you, but I've never seen a black guy on a MTB apart from the old poked ones for transport.

I am yet to hear off anyone who got their phone back this way.

Police are not interested as far as I know

Local councillor Dean Macpherson said Carlyle, 50, had been kidnapped earlier in the day by four men, who drove off with her in the boot of her BMW 1 Series car.

It was through technology that Carlyle was eventually saved after her last cellphone co-ordinates were traced to Newlands East, said Marshall Security director Tyron Powell.

Police picked up the trail of her captors again in kwaMashu when they withdrew cash from two cash points in C-section, taking out R2 000 before her daily withdrawal limit was reached.

Suspecting they would wait until midnight to start withdrawing again, the search party fanned out at various ATMs in the area.

Dont think it was a airpistol, the guy that was jacked knows better than that..

Maybe a mistake on the description of the gun then? And I quote "no glock would have a red marking on the barrel".

You'd also be suprised how many hijackings/robberies take place using toy guns. Some of them look 100% real, even with the intentional markings (such as which air rifles, etc have).
