about a month ago i upped my training and all was going well until about 2 weeks ago when i did a hard 80k ride. After that i started developing a pain in my right sitz bone (not gonna find the latin term). On shorter rides it is fine - just a short pain at the start and then it goes away. Yesterday I did a 70km ride and it was extremely sore at the end of the ride (in fact a tiny bit tender today..but not uncomfortable). I have read varying causes, one of which might be a strained hamstring caused it in the first place? - i have also read about changing saddles etc, but i dont think that is an issue as i have used this saddle for a while now. I have been ergofit on my bike, so i dont think it is a fitting problem. Its only on the right (which may be due to a slight right bias)

My feeling is that first hard ride caused a strain somewhere and this is the net result. My question is ...do i just work my way through it and it will eventually go away (bearing in mind it has been lingering for 2 weeks now) or do i rest up for a solid 7 days odd and let the inflammation go down? (not too keen on this as i need to keep the training intensity up)

Do you experience the pain only when sitting on a bike or also during other activities that don’t involve sitting i.e. walking / running stairs or uphills?

If it does not start getting better in a few days from onset then it's best to get it accessed by a good sports physio. If it’s a soft tissue strain (i.e not a bruised sit bone [ ischial tuberosity ])it could progress from a mild irritation to a total pain in the arse no training possible scenario.

I had a similar pain in the arse experience once from doing too much in a short space of time, it started off as a little niggle and then eventually could not run or cycle without constant pain. Tried various things including complete rest (no training) and various physio’s who could not find the problem (the glutes are a large muscle and can be difficult to find small tears in them). Eventualy a physio found a small muscle tear and after about 2 weeks of treatment (crossfiction massage mostly) it was sorted out.

only when sitting....even after a long ride i can stand on the peddles with no discomfort, but as soon as I put weight on that right side it becomes very uncomfortable

From memory there is a small bursae under the tendon that runs close to the tuberosity - that can get inflamed and swollen (test with your fingers to find a small jelly like bit under the pain point) - and might result in your symptom set - swap the saddle out to a different one and see if you can get the pressure off the point and see if it recovers (within 5 days it will or wont)

Did you check the saddle to see if it has not collapsed on one side (or a broken/breaking rail) that makes you sit more to 1 side?

Might also be some sort of osteoma - but that's not my first thought - much more likely to be overuse related.
