Importing a used bike into SA

If i bought a used bike on ebay vs from a online store like CRC or competitivecyclist for eg what are custom issues i would be faced with? Taxes import duties etc?

Not 100% sure, but I've imported many things from ebay frames, groups etc., without any issues, pay'd 10-15% import duties,even if it's second hand, problem that you might have is that it's a complete bike and I remember reading somewhere that duties will be higher because it's complete bike, other than that, if you are not a registered importer you will be ok, if you haven't imported bike parts more that 3 times in the last year, if you imported more than 3 times within last year, you might need to get an importer to release it from customs for you.

Unless you have an invoice declaring the costs, customs will guestimate a value and klap you with duties based on their idea of what things are worth.

so basically im looking at 15% on top of whatever i pay for a frame.

Get the seller to give give you an invoice for the parts and take a few things apart, then you should only pay the vat at 15%.

A complete bike pays something like 40% duties.
