Hi there

I'am sure this is the right place to ask this question.( People with lots of experience are on this site)

I'am in the market for a new MTB price range between 4k-5.5k. I've been shopping on the internet for this past week or so and saw there are so many makes of MTB's on the market at the moment , it's a difficult to make the right choose.

I'am not looking to go pro just do about 1 race a month and enjoy myself.

Hope you guys can help me.

Dont hold back...go big or stay home tongue.png

If there is a specialist out there that will tell me I can go ride this weekend I will go buy myself this bike straight away (no jokes): http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/products/221684006/bike-spark-rc-s/ ........... I heard the 2013 model comes out in both 29er and 650b; which I will buy the latter. smile.png

But yes, like shaper suggested, read the links on here already regarding buying new bikes, these okes dont like repeating them selfs..

I like this bike.

How does it compare to the Scott Aspect 30

Is the specs pretty descant for that price range?

youll find most of the bikes in the same price range are very similarly spec'd you wont find much of a difference, a 5k bike is a learning bike you buy it ride on it for 6 months realize you absolutly love the sport, and then convince yourself you will do so much better on a 20k bike. Its just natural evolotion.

Remember to get the right size bike, best way to do this is to go have a ergofit or bgfit done, that way you start off with the correct bike and the correct setup, costs a bit dosh but worth it.

and remember to keep cash aside for

1 pip protector

2 cycling pants (yes more expensive is better in this realm)

3 water bottle and or camelback

4 saddlebag or toptube bag

5 Cycling shirt

6 sunglasses (yes rocks in the eye hurts, and miggies burn like a bast@rd)

7 Patches, small pump, multitool, spare tube (i asssume youll only go tubeless later on)

8 Gloves (more expensive is better here too, hand comfort is important) Giro/Fox/Spescialized you cant go wrong.

And welcome to monthly bankruptcy your going to love it. :)

I was doing some window shopping this past weekend and I think the way to go will definitely be a 29er??

Do you guys think this is the way to go??

ooooh you will get 99 different opinions...

Dude: go ride them all and take what 'feels' right to you and you pocket.

Yes you will get a multitude of different opinions, my personal opinion and this is personal before you get your flame throwers out is simply this. I haven't found an XC track in SA yet where my 29'er Rocky had any disadvantage over a 26" in fact quite the opposite, however if your looking doing more All Mountain riding i would stick to 26 or 27.5.

However the reverse is also true and i would have been just as happy on a 26" bike, Being of the taller variety i do feel more comfortable and more balanced on the 9'er than the 26.
