Hakervile red route- short but out of this world.

i would have said sani2c...but after doing this event sani2c is like a night at the opera while berg and bush is like a week at mardi-gras

Some Freestate rides that deserve a mention:

 

Eden Classic 75km (Thaba 'Nchu) - some nice technical riding, coupled with the inevitable heat makes this quite tough.

Wolhuterskop 65km (Bethlehem) - plenty of ups-and-down, you can do some trail running and a swim too as they are on the same day.

Bielie Mielie 92km (Frankfort-Reitz) - day 2/3 of Jhb2C, short singletrack sections makes this worth the trip.
