So as a new cyclist I need to take the baby boy with as he will not let me or my wife go alone without him and I NEED to start training asap. I have seen the Weehoo on cyclelab website and really like the idea. But at this stage its way out of my budget.

Is there any different brand of "dummy" cycles that attach to the back of your bike at a better price?

Hi Ouzo,

That is perfect, my wife said something similar but I thought they are extinct. Where to source one of those? Or just a name so that I can search for one?

Thanks again.

The best for me was this:

http://www.weeride.com/Kangaroo-Center-Mounted-Child-Bicycle-Carrier

Used it for about three years from when my son was 2 until around 5 years old.

It was much better than the seat that sits behind you as you have much more contro and balance , your child can see what's going on instead of your sweaty back and you can have great conversations with them.

I left it on for about a year even when he started using his own bike... We would go to places like Mtn bike park and when he got tired, I simply lifted him into the seat and hung his bike onto my left handle bar grip.

You give your legs a nice work out as you need to keep the bike stable when carrying kid and kiddie bike but at least you can go on fairly decent rides with the little guy and let him/ her carry on when rested.

I bought mine via wantitall.co.za came to around R. 1500 three years ago ... Worth every cent, used it all the time. My back mounted seat was used once.

Good luck

I looked at the pictures of the Weeride now, wasn't it in the way of you getting a proper position to ride?

from what I've seen the seat is in the way of your legs when pedaling so you have to pedal with your legs wide open for clearance?

I will have a look at the one SW has to offer, if it seems to be to my liking I will take it and see how it works. If after a while the laaitie decides he aint feeling it I will then get the dummy bike to attach, hopefully by then the budget has recovered.

The weeride kangaroo carrier is by far the best and requires very little adjustment to your riding style - it's an excellent design. There are a few good videos on you tube and other threads on the hub.

I have the Giant seat and personally believe its better than the Weeride Kangaroo as it can recline. This is a very important when hitting the road and little one wants to hit club duvet. My daughter has been in the "saddle" since she was 8mths and the Giant seat has always been a winner. She is now 2yrs.

My 5year old son still enjoys going for a ride.

I will say the advantage the Weeride has is that its mounted in front of the rider and this could put a nervous mom at ease but if the child gets a bit older, then it would be rather cumbersome. I just feel because of this the Weeride has a limited life span.
