Hi buddies!

I'm going to Welvanpas this Saturday but don't know the area at all. I've heard that is a cool area to ride and I've got the trail map from irideafrica.com but I have some questions.

Where exactly the trail start? Could someone show me where the parking is on google maps?

What kind of trails / singletracks will I find there? I've ride every singletrack on Tokai and Jonkershoek (except for some huge jumps in Tokai) and I really enjoyed them.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

I'm wanting to know if it's safe to go alone and whether there is water to be found on the route or does one need to go fully stocked (2 water bottles) for the long route.

Welvanpas is safe from a crime point of view. You can phone the restaurant there beforehand to check on any farmworker strikes, although it seems to have been quiet lately, just to be sure. The only issue I can imagine is if you crash badly and have no help getting down the mountain on your own. There should be cellphone reception on most of the trail. It will be a lot quieter than Tokai with far fewer riders. The single track is more groomed and flowing than Tokai and very much fun to ride. There are no big jumps and drops, and only a few technically difficult parts which are well marked with warning signs. The route is well marked and starts from the Welvanpas farm restaurant. The long route includes a good lot of climbing with very beautiful terrain and views. I would take enough water because Wellington can get seriously hot. You will be crossing a couple of streams and a dam or two, but I'm not so sure the water is safe to drink except if in an emergency.

it's bit of a mess at the moment with all the trees that have blown over after the heavy winds last week. A 2 hour ride on Sat took 2hrs40mins due to it. Wonder when the trail will be cleared - I imagine it will take some time..
