Hi all

I’m still riding with mechanical disk brakes, got a 160mm rear and 180mm front disk.

This stops me pretty fine, I really can’t complain, I carry spare brake cable with, so if I run into a bit of bad luck I can fix it and be on my way.

Now...

I’m looking to upgrade to hydraulic, what type of problems can this give in the middle of nowhere? And can it be fixed on the trail?

I’m not 100% clued up on the hydraulic brakes...

I have never had a problem in many, many Km's, the only issue I ever had was pressing the brake lever while the wheel was out and popped the piston out. But that was at home anyway!

Hydros are probably the lowest maintenance part on a MTB. If something goes wrong there's no way you'll fix them on the trail, but catastrophic failure is pretty uncommon.
