Giant XTC 2 2013....the frame is great..spec decent....could also opt for XTC 1 with better spec...

I had a look at the Giant XTC 1 (2012) model. Looks like that will be my choice.

I reckon anything in steel. If you want something relaxed and fun you can't beat steel.

If you're going to race it then alu or carbon - steel for fun. Make it SS too. then go rigid in front and you're done :-)

Any bike shop that stocks Giant should be honest and tell you this is the case.I bought mine at Geko cycles ,nice service ,they got one in for me to try without any obligation to buy as I was looking at either the new scott940 or 920.You won't be sorry even px2 wheels on the giant hold my 90 kg's without issue.

I am currently riding a SC Tallboy and still believe it is the best bike out there. I am looking to get a 29 er hard tail. There is many reasons why I want to do this.

Any suggestions for a reasonably priced bike with fairly relaxed geometry?

The serious stuff will be on my TB.

I'm not fond of extreme racing geometry, because I find such bikes uncomfortable and to have a tendency for skittishness. That being said, the Silverback Storm suffers from neither of those problems. The Storm 1 is more expensive than the 16k you're planning to spend, but it offers stupendous value. Then again, the Storm 2 is about 17k IIRC and is an absolute steal. Don't disregard this option until you've been for a test-ride wink.png

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - why not steel?

If you're gonna do all the serious stuff on a Tallboy why would you want to buy a bike that is effectively one level down from the TB with a hard tail?

Get something different enough that it's fun to ride not "more of the same just harder cos there is no rear suspension"?

SSer.

Cyclocross bike.

Fixie.

Or maybe expand on the reasons you want to own a hardtail and thehub experts will find you a bike :-)
