you can use Strava as your training log book, upgrade to premium.

when racing your efforts will b e quicker than when jra, so does it really matter?

the biggest issue I have is that when going on a group ride with mates, you should make it clear at the start whether you are going stavassholing or riding together for fun. having your mates peel off as fast as they can on a premeditated sections does get annoying and spoils the group ride.

People shouldnt get hyped up over strava, really, almost all GPS's give elevetion differences, cell phones are'nt nearly as acurate in recording true speed and elevation as they should be, different cellphones also use different accelerometers, theres no allowance for head or tail winds or any other factor, etc etc etc.

Strava is simply a toy which you use to compete against your mates for fun besides that it serves no real function.

The segments are flawed as well, I cut a 6km section of a specific segment, and it still placed me 3rd in that segment with 3 other people that took the same shortcut.

yes, this is true. if you start at the beginning of a segment, take a short cut, and finish at the end of a segment you will place higher than those riding the full route. Its easy to see this though and you will most likely have your ride flagged by those doing the full route, in which case your subversive efforts are for nought.

Whats also annoying is that if a route along a segment is changed long after it was first ridden, eg windy bits added to an old straigh singletrack, then there is no realistic way you can challenge for that KOM.

Also guys using cellphone apps get given a lot of leeway as opposed to guys using better GPS devices as the cellphones are not as accurate.

Still makes for very fun times

I know you can make private segments but would be cool if you could add only people you want to add. Although on private segments does show you how you compare to the rest of the field.

You can filter segments to show only people you follow, or per club...

Since the tracks change all the time i tend to use private segments and update them for a realistic look, but generally i just use it

1 for fun to see how i compare relatively to my buddies.

2 And its awesome to see the progress made over the course of a year.

I'm gonna use it to compete against myself! I'll never take Darren Lill and have no intention to even try, but I sure as hell want to take myself from when I was training less or being too softc0ck to ride a tough route. Now me wants to give past me a proper carrot!

A few more mental mountain rides and I'll be pushing decent pace up the climbs... The engine is growing.... I see there's an echo about my Saturday suggestion as tumbleweed rolls through that thread......

You're such a fighter, Tubehunter.

Looking forward to see how you rev up those climbs.

I'm more like hoping to see if I can survive the ride to be honest.... It's gonna tame the legs for sure!!! Feb will be speed work and then I aim to bring some revs!
