Thanks for all the replies.

But the million dollar question, can I still ride?

Best to stay off the bike for a couple of days. Give it time to heal. The bumps under the skin are pretty much there to stay, albeit a bit smaller. Forget about them, make sure the skin is sparkling clean after each ride. Edited by kandui

he gave me antibiotics and bactraban, said if that did not work then he would have to open it up and drain it.

sorry for another topic on saddle sores, but the type I have dont seem to have been discussed.

Since my change in bike setup I've developed saddle sores on my sit bones. Now doing some research mine are not the normal hair follicle or chaffing type, they are the boil type. A hard boil type swelling on each sit bone.

I've been off the bike for a week trying to give it a rest and have been treating with bepanthen and liberal amounts of baby powder, also going commando when ever I can. But a week later they are still there.

Any cures ?

I think the reason for getting them is the new bike setup. I used to have my saddle rather high, the LBS dropped my saddle considerably but because of the huge difference between what they set it at and what I had it at I lifted it slightly. I think if I drop the saddle back to where they set it I should not get the sores as easily again.

But for now I need to cure the damned things so that I can get back on the bike.

I have the same issue, i have been told to check if my saddle is wide enough, in other words, is your saddle right for your sit bones? another thing that is very important is the quality of your Chamois in your cycling shorts, it is important to have the correct density according to your weight and the type of saddle you use. (A harder saddle would typically need a higher density chamois.)

Ja they are more like pressure sores. I got one under my right sit bone. Had to lance it by standing with my back to the full length mirror in the bedroom and then bending over and looking through my legs.

A helluva sight, I can tell you.

Then savlon, betadine, etc.

I found on my road bike that spending a lot of time in the drops, does take the direct pressure off the sit bones. Eventually it turned into a hard callous and after that all was fine again.

Still have nightmares about what I saw in that day in the mirror though...

I saw mine too man, it is sick! My wife almost got sick I tell you!

I had a reacurring saddle sore I even named him Gary. I kind of hippied a solution by eating herbs and spices with anti bacterial properties, I also added honey to my diet where I could. This along with putting Betadine on the guy after each shower has reduced it from a boil to a little bump that I barely notice. It has taken a little over a month tho.

Most likely you still have an infection there - in a capsule - just waiting to break out again.

I would recommend getting it lanced, the capsule extracted and treatment with antibiotics.

Then in a week's time...I'll ask you how's Gary doing??

bizzarre...

My training partner called his one Steve..... but Steve forced him to drop out of the Epic with 2 days to go... :)

And cost him some time in theatre too...

If I had to give the one that landed me in hospital a name, it would have been Lucifer. Perianal abscesses are not to be taken lightly.

Go to a doctor, lift your saddle, buy real good shorts(the expensive one's ) . You shouldn't get any from 100km a week.

A friend of mine once lanced one after the 4th Epic stage in 2008. It got infected and he had to go to hospital before st 7
