DT Swiss Aerolite spokes: Are they made of gold?

The background: I bought some carbon rims to replace the Crests on our two Silverback Storms. Thought the black hubs and carbon rims would look hot with red spokes. Wanted something light, so narrowed the search down to DT Swiss Aerolites.

The rant: The SA DT Swiss distributors don't import the Aerolites. BUT they can do a special import for me. Great! (?) No, not so great... They want to charge me R105 per spoke inc. nipple. eek.gif That comes to a total of R13 440 for the 128 spokes required. **Faints**

Gold lacks the tensile strength to make good spokes

LOL! Good one :D

The cost breakdown is R75 per spoke and R30 per Pro-Lock nipple.

At that price the spokes will work out double what I paid for the rims. Just crazy. Back to good old black DT Revos...

Carbon rims on a silverback? Over capitalizing?

That depends on how you look at it. If the bike is to be judged by its brand or what it cost, then yes maybe you're right. I don't care about brand names, but about how the bike rides. The Storm is a really nice ride and I've found the only weak point to be the Crests it comes with. If you add the bike's purchase price and cost of upgrade, you still have a fantastic XC race machine at under 30k. wink.png

I'm pretty sure that should be $75.

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure that R13k for 128 spokes is a massive mis-calculation on someone's part.

Yeah, I gave them clear instructions for rectal self-administration of their 13k spokes angry.png

OK, wait, on further research, 32 hole carbon rims on an mtb, aerolite spokes are pretty much a daft choice anyway. They aren't designed for such a purpose.
