I have been off the bike for around 5 years and keen to get back on...however in those 5 years bikes have evolved, one has had a back operation and turned 40. My question is this does one look at the trail option.....on paper looks like a more forgiving steed on the body what are the pros & cons?

Trail bikes have more travel (140mm to 160mm), thicker tires and are built to take a beating. Downside is they will weigh more. Get a full suspension bike and take it easy. You can ride the shocks a bit softer if you're not gonna push them too hard.

Get a road bike then.

Road bike and get bike fitted. nothing better than a smooth piece of tar at speed with your buddies.

Dual sus MTB. Not less than 120mm travel. Don't buy a road bike... It will make you feel dirty ;)

And you will be classified as rude ..snob...unhelpful..just because you didn't greet a fellow cyclist .... :)
