Mish-ka-moo Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Have been looking for a MTB with good components for some time, and have the option of a 2nd hand SCOTT SCALE ELITE 29er for R10,400 (New R14,500). Have to make a decision today, so any comments would be most appreciated on the Specs.ThanksMichele Specs: • SPECS GEOMETRY SIZE CHART DOCSFrameScale 29 Alloy 6061, custom butted superlight tubing, forged race disc dropouts PM160, bridgeless seatstays, Integ. scotty Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Scott's a good brand so on that alone you cant go wrong. componments are good although there have been some comments from hubbers regrads the Avid brakes. For the rest of the bikes parts they are more than decent, i have the same fork on my Fuji and its tops, having the remote lockout is great.
Benjamin Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Michele I've got the dual suspension Scott and all good. I really enjoy it. No issues with the components, it's a good package. XT rear and SLX front all good. Brakes fine. It's a go fast bike, and seems a good price. Few things though.1. Make sure it's right size2. Change the tires to Racing Ralphs3. Sure you want a hard tail?
LazyTrailRider Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Sounds good Michele. I've just bought a new Scale 940, and have to admit that I've been pleasantly surprised. The Scales have excellent spec levels in value terms, yours specifically because it includes a Reba, which I think many people would agree is the most bang-for-buck fork option around. If it's in great condition, go for it! Benjamin, why should she swop to Racing Ralphs? Nothing wrong with Rons. The peace of mind offered by a little bit of extra grip is worth the slightly slower roll, unless you're in the running for a top ten. Very few of us are, even though we like to think so.

Very few of us are, even though we like to think so.I'm nowhere near top ten. Nothing to do with the speed, I just found the grip of the Ralphs way better than the Rons. The Ron's came with the bike new, and I've still got them, but found them to be really sketchy. Not sure of the theory, but for me, the Ralphs are more stable and much more confident. My riding partner found the same, on the same bike, and we both been very happy with the Ralphs.
Mish-ka-moo Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 THANKS GUYS!!!! Deal done at 4pm this afternoon, now a proud owner of a SCOTT SCALE ELITE!!! Paid R11K which incl. a few new extras (ERGON GP3 Handle Grips, Bottle Holder, Pump & SHIMANO Cleets). The receipt says he paid R17K for the bike 4 mnths ago, so a great deal @R11K!!! Have ridden a Lynskey Hardtail & Trek Carbon Softail before, which belonged to a friend of mine, and I have to say............ I am well impressed with the SCOTT!!! Can't wait to get off road again, so my dedicated road bike will have to take a back seat for now, until I start my training for Argus! Happy Cycling Guys, and thanks once again!!! Delilah 1
