Hi All

Have installed a DMR kit (16T sprocket) on my build. all spaced up and chainline looking good to go - Attempt to wrap a brand new Shimano 9 speed chain around and this....thumbdown.gif (see pic below)

WTF? all the research i did said a 9 speed chain will work? its almost as if the links are too short or something, an old stretched section of 8 speed chain i use as a chain whip fits perfect.... any suggestions, id love to finally get this project rolling.

you need a different chain, singlespeed specific or even a 6/7sp style chain forget the exact chain dims.......you dont need a BMX / track chain (1/8" I think) just the slightly thicker than your 9sp chain.....

That's odd if you're running a 3/32" sprocket kit.

My DMR kit worked perfectly with a 9 speed chain and as far as I know they're 3/32" kits.

I'm now running a SS specific sprocket which requires a 1/8" chain. When I placed my 9 speed chain on this sprocket it did something similar to your picture.

Are you sure the chain is a 9 speed chain or the kit is definately 3/32"?

eish - im using a 9 speed 32T ring upfront - will it make a difference?

No. I run a 9 speed compatible chain ring with a 1/8" sprocket and 1/8" chain.

You can't run 3/32" chain on a 1/8" sprocket or chain ring. You can run a 1/8" chain on the smaller sprockets or chainrings. Advisable to to run at least one 1/8" sprocket or chainring with this.

That looks like the correct kit. I've used these on a few bikes.

You can always email the okes at dial'd. They're very helpful.

Do what the nerd (& rock) suggested though. Should sort the problem.

I was thinking of using a half link chain on my SS, but are they as strong as a 8 speed chain?

No they are not, I've heard of plenty breaking!

I'm no expert, but looking at the thickness and feeling the weight, I reckon they are very strong. I'm sure they are designed to handle some serious torque put out by BMX racers...
