Hi All,

Just bought myself the new Look S-Track (thanks CWC).

My question is with regards to the shoes.

I have about R 1 500 for new shoes and was wondering what peoples suggestions are.

I am not the strongest rider and will walk certain sections (very technical or very steep items).

So i dont plan on doing too much trekking but its going to happen from time to time.

I am a bit confused and not sure weather to get descent shoes for R 1 500.00 (any suggestions welcome) or to put in more money and get some carbon soles.

I have not found anything i like yet.

Shimano shoes state that the are SPD compatable, does this rule them out?

specialized makes very good plastic soled shoes, they are very stiff, not as stiff as the carbon ones. Look at their mtb Sport shoe. I'm very happy with the sports

Thanks for the answers,

i like the Suplest but have a different foot pattern so i need to try them on first and am in Joey's.

Will look at the other options,

i have Gaerne at the moment although they bottom of the range.

I have to agree with the Specialized shoes - I have the Pro version with the carbon soles, these are amazing and have the stiffest soles imaginable! I do imagine they are bit over your budget, but I would seriously consider spending the extra ZAR...

Good mate of mine has the Specialized shoes with the plastic soles, he also is very happy with his shoes and reckons they are properly stiff.

Both of us came from Sidi - NEVER again! Never!

I would go with the Shimano shoe, great range and gave me good service,

I went through a specialized shoe in 8 months, carbon sole and all. I am now in Sidi, and have been for a year and love the flexible toe box, and the stiff centre sole.

I suppose its such a view of what fits one best.

I will try on some more shoes and see what is best for me.

Thanks for the views and opinions.

I think that because, as you mentioned, that you still do quite a lot of walking, the plastic-soled shoes will be more comfortable (slightly more flexible) than carbon. Obviously you lose some power transfer, but Specialized has done well to minimize the losses with its plastic soles.
