My only issue now is to find a chain ring that is not ramped. I can get from CRC but don't know if I want to wait that long.

Perhaps I will try to use the normal Shimano ring in the meantime...

The Dartmoor ones are ramped...then I might as well use the normal chain ring right?

Can't find Hope anywhere...

Yes you can use a normal chainring in the meantime until you can find a suitable specifice SS chainring, it will work.

I started with a middle chainring from a deore crank and broke apart an old 7spd cassette for the sprocket and used that for a couple of months whilst I ordered bits to pimp my ride.

From the pic the Dartmoor does look ramped, and I contacted the guys and they told me that it IS ramped?

The blackspire looks great, a little pricey though....probably worth it?

I could be wrong on the Dartmoor.

I use Blackspire. Bulletproof, top quality and very hard-wearing. I'd say "worth every penny"

In the short term or emergency a ramped chainring will do. My first SS was built using the middle ring from a Deore XT triple, a 9 speed chain and a sprocket taken from an old 9 speed XT cassette.

After using it for some time I sold it to Iron who rode the bejeebers out of it and eventually it started jumping.

Like I said - Blackspire, SRAM chain and Shimano DX sprockets for me now but almost anything will do in a jam.

Thanx, I will start with the new Deore chain riing, new Shimano 8 speed chain, and single speed sprocket with washers.

I will order the Blackspire chain ring and put that on once I get it...just need to ride in the mean time! :w00t:
