Why is it the "smokers again" why not start a thread about all the drivers who throw all kinds of **** out their car windows. Or the cyclists who drop their energy wrappers on the ground while riding. I'm so sick of non-smokers sitting on their little pedestals passing judgement. When you have smoked and given up and understand the habit, then sit and pass judgement. Untill then leave them be.

No, not when they pollute and burn down something that is dear to me (the world). If they chuck all those burning stompies inside their own cars or their own homes, even just on their own land, I will have no beef with them. I have the same issue with all other thoughtless polluting and littering idiots of any kind, so no, the smokers are not special in any way.

Based on a worldwide study of smoking-related fire and disaster data, UC Davis epidemiologists show smoking is a leading cause of fires and death from fires globally, resulting in an estimated cost of nearly $7 billion in the United States and $27.2 billion worldwide in 1998. The study is published in the August issue of Preventive Medicine.

Thats a bit dramatic. Was wondering what you had to say before all the smoking laws came out. There are far worse things busy polluting and burning down your little world. I don't see you moaning about that too much.

Obviously I am a smoker, and I hate it and agree with every single negative comment (as long as it's constructive) made by non-smokers. I am currently on a system to give it up, and i admire those who have given up because it's faaaarkin difficult (or at least it is for me). Before all the smoking laws came out no-one really cared too much. I remember sitting in the cinema smoking, and never saw anyone walk out because people were smoking. Today public places are cleaner and healthier as a result of these laws, and i support them, because every time i'm told ÿou not allowed to smoke here i smoke less". However since the laws were introduced, every single non-smoker cannot stop moaning about how bad it is and how its messing up their enviroment. Well people, start dealing with it. If you find yourself in an enviroment where people are smoking then move out of that enviroment without acting like a bitch, because it's allowed. You won't find us in your smoke free enviroment smoking because it's against the law. it's just a smoke we are having people, we not rapeing children or throwing new born babies down the toilet.

to the guy who got hit by the cow's stompie out of her Merc window, I sympathise with you, even as a smoker i would have been pissed as well. But it could have been worse, like a used condom or something

This is supposed to be in the "what has commuting taught me" fred. But this is a bit of a rant so please bare with me.

When commuting always wear a good quality moisturizer for not only will it save your skin against the African elements. But also against the middle aged goose that WAS sitting in the passenger seat of a WHITE MERCEDES BENS M-CLASS WITH CBM REGISTRATION PLATES when she gooi-ed out her still burning cigarette stompie right into my face.

Anyone know who this koei may be? Anyone from Laingsburg? Please let me know!!

Dankie

I could go down the road (it's only a long day's ride) and find the Bovine Beauty you seek, but I'd need some detail first:

Colour, model, etc of car, registration number perhaps? If it's a W123 240D then I'd be duty bound to cover for her, even though I am a fervent non-smoker.

On the other hand, they might live on a farm in the greater Laingsburg district in which case it could take me weeks of riding. But find her I will.

PM me if you want to know my rates for a three week ride of the plaaspaaie of the Laingsburg district ;)

I'd love to see her face when we hand that stompie back to her after a 3 week search.

3 week search = 21 days. Sounds like you work for government. And am willing to sacrifice your total annual leave to look for the lady. Thank you! But I must make certain that you are qualified for the job, so if you can cycle down to the west coast sometime we van meet and talk about it! :)

Now you are abusing my good offer!

I do not work for gubmint, but I have done work for them on occasion.

Why don't I start here and ride towards you, we could meet at a mutually agreeable location (Middelpos springs to mind) to hold a short workshop to discuss a way floor-ward.

Then I could swing south in search of the elusive BB while you go home into a headwind..

If I find the bovine, do I get to keep the car? I'm assuming you don't want it.

JohnnRissik, you are a real ‘burger. One day when the sun shines for more than a hour at a time a ride can be organised.

Went past Middelpos yesterday, down to the beach to see what the storm had done to the new experimental desalination plant. No worries for the DS-plant that a few nails and blou draad can’t fix, but the track in…!!!!

Even in the 4x4 it was slip sliding, slip sliding all the away.

I did smoke for 20 years. It is a disgusting habit and it stinks. And even without a lit cigarette in their hand most (not all, just most) smokers stink. As to the stompie-chucking habit.... Gross and irresponsible. Even when I did smoke I used the ashtrays in the car because I hate litter and I didn't want to be the caused of a veld fire.

@ nohare:

Meneer, my bicycles are standing shivering in the corner, refusing to move outside, just can't convince them that it will be fun. I think they need a good sjambokking.

I think we are talking about different Middelpos's (or whatever the plural is). The one I had in mind hasn't seen a tide for a good few million years, it's NW of Sitterland.

A ride can always be organised, it is often from these strange rides that greater things emerge....in 2009 some Ingelsman affie Kaap decided he wanted to ride the Swartberg Pass in January....the only way to do it was at night in the full moon. That was the birth of the Prince Albert Dikwiel Kommando.

On another occasion, after tearing my hair out (well, that's my story) trying to arrange a ride to suit a number of different people with different agendas, another group was formed. FIFO riders. Anyone familiar with the system of accounting practised on the back of a cigarette box will know that it stands for fit in or fork off...

Which brings me to the original fred...that stompie-gooiende ding has besmirched not only the reputations of owners old Karoo Mercedes', but also Laingsburg, the entire Koup and maybe even the entire Karoo by association. I feel duty bound to find her.

But it may take some time......surely if we approach this scientifically and scour all the roads of the Koup, it would be a good start.

And if you think I sound mal, don't raise the subject of desalination plants again...... ;)
