So I have been saving up to upgrade to a set of ZTR Crests, primarily for the weight saving on my 29er HT. It's an aluminum Momsen weighing in at 13kg.

I have weighed my current wheelset and it comes in at 4.5-4.6kg all in including rotors, cassette, tyres, slime, etc. From information I have read the Crests wouldn't be much lighter perhaps even the same.

Leaves me wondering is it worth the R5000 to upgrade as my current set has given me no issues at all.

Current setup is Sun Ringle inferno 23 rims, SRAM hubs, WTB Bronson front, WTB Nano rear, 10 speed SRAM cassette, AVID 160mm rotors and Stan's slime.

It is easy to obtain the weights of your cassette, rotors, tyres and sealant.

Subtract the sum of the above mass from the total mass and see how it will compare to a crest wheelset.

If the difference is less than 300g, you should perhaps pursue a different weight saving scope, such as the fork. Depending on your current fork, you can easily save 500-600g on a fork, and the fork will be more tuneable and will most probably improve the ride of the bike as well.

Yes do the upgrade, it will be lighter for sure, but get the American Classic standard tubeless wheelset which is better quality, a few grams lighter, looks much better, and is stronger and stiffer than a Stans Crest wheelset, at the same price.

That's great advice actually as I'm running a Roch Shox XC32 so definately a lot to improve on there.

Question is what is a good fork upgrade within a R3500-R4500 price bracket. Obviously looking at keeping it to a QR skewer, no NA.

Keep an eye on special offers, Rockshox Reba RLT is great value for money, and it is a great performing fork.

with all the hype about 29ers, do you think your abilities are so poor that you now have to split airs about upgrades? I was led to believe that any 29er had enough magic in it to make harry potter's broomstick look like an average brush with a stick in it.

Aah there's always one... The hater's gonna hate.

Maybe if you ignore him long enough, he'll go away.

Enjoy your new wheels..
