Well I have just riden my first tubeless ride on my new epic. While washing my bike after the ride I noticed stans coming out the sides in a few spots along the edge of the rim. Is this normal? My tire is inflated pretty hard +- 2.2bar. I also noticed it on the trail while coming down the singletrack.

any advice for a noob to tubeless would be appreciated.

It usually happens to me just after seating the tire. But it seals itself. Just make sure your tire is on properly?

OK thanks. It was the first ride since the tires have been on so perhaps it still needs to bed in. Just got a bit nervous on the trail at the time.

Were you riding on rocky terrain? I had the same issue with the rear tire when it was under inflated, and I notced that the only time I noticed some sealnt coming out happened riding on rocky terrain, probably at the spots where the tire deforms according to the rocks? It goes away after a few rides.

Check the tire when you spin it. It should be smooth - no whobbles. Also check the side of the tire at the rim/bead all the way round. This is to make sure that the tire is seated properly. If the tire is seated properly then I will give it more time it should be fine.

Mine started doing that the other day, thought it was leaking out the sides. Turns out I have a leaky valve stem and it was leaking out by the valve and running onto the sides. After the USN race on Sat it seems to have resealed again though. Sometimes it just needs a nice long ride to get the stans to seal nicely.

Anyway, if you are worried, fill a tub with water and stick the wheel in there and see if you get any air bubbles escaping.
