Anyone please advise. Collected my new Merida Race Lite 903 today. See pic of front wheel, spokes don't cross over each other. All pics I've seen the spokes cross over. Is this correct/dangerous?

Its called a radial spoke wheel. Its fine as long as you aren't a lard arse.

Perfectly safe.

Thanks S.I.R Maxxis...also the Merida Website says wheels are spoked prior to shipping...so I guess it must be right then. FYI its the Alexrim Merida MR 500 wheelset. HAHAHA...luckily not a vetgat!

A radially laced wheel, even on a Shimano hub, should not be a problem if it's built properly. Shimano never built hubs not to be radially laced, but at one point refused to take responsibility for failures on hubs that were laced to rims this way. They weren't the only manufacturer to do so.

Thanks- I read a few articles relative to your comment as well. These wheels are put together in the factory so I assume it would have been laced correctly. My concern though is every single front wheel I have seen on this particular bike is not spoked radially....so why this one?? I guess a question I'll need to direct to the supplier..

Where did you buy the bike? What year model is it? Could have been swopped out by the bike shop.

I think it looks 'cool' though and since you're not a 'vetgat' you're good to go!

I have a straight laced front wheel and as Azonic stated I even have that setup on the rear wheel (cross drive, straight non drive) on my fixed gear bike. No trouble yet and I am a 'relatively' vetgat ;)

Bought from Takealot...supplied by Cycle Lab, not sure which branch ( ass-u-me its from Cycle Lab as the bike is wrapped in Cycle Lab packaging) I stand under correction here though. It is brand new - 2013 model.

I'm still new to this and inexperienced - my concern was from a safety point of view, agree it does look kinda cool though

I did a bit of googling - dangerous, I know - and have seen some pics of 2012 bikes with a radial front wheel, but the 2013 on Merida's site isn't shown with one. Post a pic of the bike if you get a chance.

Hahahaha! I think you meant to quote Bennie's post!

Haha...maybe I should stick to S.I.R.Maxxis' quote and stick to "Lard Ass" instead. Apologies to those riders with extra ordinary big sit bones then...
