If I use a spare wheel for the trainer with the same cassette that my normal wheelset has on it, I will obviously wear out my chain quicker that the cassette, so wont that cause me to have to replace my cassette more often on the normal wheel as a new chain only seems to work on a new cassette?

If you know what I mean

Ok, so I can get a 26 and put a 10speed on. No brakes are needed, but would a rim brake wheel fit on my bike if I have disc brakes? Almost seems as if some things will be in the way, don't know. I see a 10 speed cassette is about R700 for the cheapest I can find. Still bloody expensive, do you know what the cheapest is?

The 10spd on my bike is new, not even 300km on it, so makes no sense changing that.

The wheel may or may not fit past the calliper depending on the hub flange spacing. If it does, just put pad spacers in the back brake so you don't accidentally squeeze the lever.

Avalanche at Sportmans I saw is R1 800, that is a complete bike! A complete **** bike, but complete none the less. Does not even make any sense that the cheapest spare wheel I can find is more than that.

Maybe buy the bike from Sportmans, take the wheel and throw out the rest. Cheaper that way.

Rather buy a second hand road bike from the classifieds. You should find one for 2k that will be many orders of magnitude better than those Avalanche thingies. They are so very very k@k and will probably give you Tourettes within a week.

Or buy a second hand wheel and an entry level 10sp cassette, it's probably your cheapest option.

Just make sure you don't wear your chain past 0.5% elongation (1/16" over 12 links) and you'll be fine on both cassettes.

As droo said, buy a cheap road bike in the classifieds and use that for the trainer, then there is no need to mess with your mountain bike.
