your largest market will come in the 650b 140mm range, its brilliant trail/enduro and can also be use for XC, don't believe the 160 hype it is still a small segment of the market and you don't want to sit with stock.

look at the SA history, only bikes coming in as readily available stock are.... Giant trance, scott genius, specialized stumpjumper, trek remedy please not the giant Reign doesn't count as it is a special order item. ,

unfortunately it pays to cater to a wider market audience, and I know im not going to be popular with saying 140mm but it makes more business sense , even though I ride a 150mm, the market is too 'niche' especially in xc land

does the 650b only come in 160mm? and the 29 in 140mm?

then its a bit of a dilemma .......

For one, it would be great if your "dealers" got back to prospective clients on availability and generally dealing with queries in a more professional way...

Lost me as a client that way for sure!

I guess under the banner 'best trail bike of the year 2013' kind of wins ... 650b 160mm

There are only really 2 applications in SA where a 650b mtb makes sense over a 29er - a bike for smaller men and women who don't feel comfortable on a 29er but want the big-wheel benefits, and the Enduro/All mountain application where big wheels can be limiting in more technical terrain.

As much as many people claim to want the option of a 650b long travel all mountain bike, the market for this type of bike locally is minute and better served by the slew of 120-140mm travel 29ers that are available.

In SA people are 29er mad.

Think long and hard before you bring n a 26 that is not a trailbike or an entry level MTB.

Your racing HT and FS in 29er format is where the bread and butter is.

If you can still afford it, a decent trail bike in 650b flavour will be popular. But the trail market is probably less than a third of the racing 29er market.

That is what I would do if it was my money. Turn over is turnover and you need to bring in what you know you can sell without marking it down.

THis is on my wish list: http://www.cube.eu/uk/full/allmountain/stereo-super-hpc-160-slt/

The money makers will be the AMS 100 29er and HT 29 ranges.

In road you just need to have a bike at all the major pricepoints.

Good luck.

This. I'm going to wear a hole in my shorts from the tyre-rub on my arse when doing steep descents on my 29er. And I crap myself every time it happens. Guess I'm not tall enough at 1.74m.

I'd have to go with a 650b, 140mm travel dual sus with decent groupset (note:does not mean XTR all the way, XT will do fine and keep if affordable). If you can back this up with decently priced 650b tyres then in my opinion you'll be covering a major gap in the market. Hope you guys make the correct predictions and good luck for 2014!
