Worth it or not?

Hi Guys

I made a post recently about the fact that I'm looking for a cheapish road bike. I'll be using it on a turbo trainer, and for the odd road race (maybe 3 or 4 a year). Anyway I found this bike, it seems to be a pretty decent bike, do you think it's worth the asking price?

I think this is a spec sheet for the bike:

What do you think, worth R5k?

Regards,

Nick

Tks for the replies guys!!!

yeah bike is a bit old hey, I'm think R5k is too high!!!

What kind of spec does the bikes you picked up for 3.5k have?

I know a new bike for 3,5k is specced with entry level parts!

Yeah unfortunately there are very few road bikes for sale in KZN on thehub, so I'm mainly using gumtree to look.

I wouldn't pay that.

At that price - you could almost pick up something as decent new.

Many frames are equal in quality - it's the drive train that matters.

That's a Tiagra - but it's 8yrs old.... or is it? No idea how many kms on it.

An 8 yr old Tiagra isn't necessarily more reliable than a new Sora... for e.g.

And if you're not sure what I'm talking about - slow down with the R5k for 30 min and be sure what you want.

I bet you can get a new bike for 5k - that's nice, fresh, fashionable, and good for few thousand kms trouble free.

Also 56cm frame... are you sure? gotta know your size.

Actually - No, it's not.

I bought a 1yr old Merida 901 Race with 300kms on it for R4500 including a computer, saddle bags and pedals, pump. And a standard Carbon Fibre fork.

And that wasn't a bargain - just fair.

Thanks, great advice!!! Will definitely keep it in mind.

Yeah I'm 6ft with an inseam of 85cm, so a 58cm is ideal. How many cms can I go either side before I start compromising the fit of the frame?

Way too expensive, wouldn't pay more than R2 000 for that. The picture isn't too clear, but the g/set looks a bit scratched.

I've just bought an oldish Trek with Ultegra/105 mix components, rolf vector wheels and in "well used" but good condition. Runs super smoothly and i'm very happy with it. Paid a little over R3K.

Thanks for all the replies. So basically it's not remotely worth it!!!

Looking at a Felt Z90 now, advertised for 3k neg. It's a sora/tiagra mix, but it's fairly new, got a carbon front fork.

I'm battling to find anything better in that price range in the Durban area!

Lemme know if anyone thinks the felt Z90 is a bad idea, until then I'll assume it's alright!

Now that's a whole lot better than what you were looking at earlier today.

Sounds good man!

Actually - pretty good!
