ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE AND CONQUER THE SPANISH ISLAND!

Adventurous mountain biker, fit and a keen traveler? This event is for you...THE IBIZA CHALLENGE!

ABOUT THE RACE

The Challenge is aimed at giving you the ultimate Mediterranean experience. If you are adventurous, fit, and a keen traveller, the IBIZA challenge is the event for you! It kicks off at OR Tambo airport and after 8000 kilometres of travelling you reach the Spanish island of IBIZA, south of Barcelona. IBIZA is known as the summer party capital of the world but during winter it all but closes down, accepting a more leisurely pace and allowing MTB enthusiasts to move around freely and have the Island all to themselves. You will be spending 7 riding days on the island, exploring the tracks, mountains and breathtaking views of this Mediterranean wonderland. This excursion will cater for the VERY FIT athlete as well as for any other level of rider.

THE CHALLENGE:

The Challenge will consist of 800 hard kilometers over 7 days’ riding! This will include single track, asphalt, jeep track, and cobblestone surfaces taking you through valleys, over mountains, along the sea, through pine forests and through villages. You may expect an elevation of up to 900m in a single day with most days testing your legs, technical skills and endurance. The terrain is rugged and beautiful simultaneously and The Challenge will meet out an average of 114 km each day comprising of a hard morning’s ride which can be rounded off with optional afternoon activities – sometimes taking you to breathtakingly beautiful places which you can only reach by MTB! Secluded coves, cliffs, beaches and mountains all beckon and sights include the old fortified city, cathedrals and defence towers dotted along the coast. We will also be spending a day at the jewel of Spain, Barcelona, on the way back.

Optional activities include trail running, canoeing, open water (sea) swimming, rock climbing as well as MTB time trials.

Participants can pick and choose their own level of participation should they not be able to take on The Full Challenge. This is referred to as the Ibiza Active experience. Just come. Don’t stay home. Do what you are able to. Accept The Challenge.

ACCOMMODATION:

Most hotels close down in Ibiza for the winter months, but we have lined up three hotels in different areas. They are all decent three star hotels providing us with a good level of accommodation.

The first couple of nights we will be in Portinatx on the northern tip of the island, then San Antoni on the west coast and lastly the capital of Ibiza on the east coast, Elvissa, for the last night.

We will also be spending a day in Barcelona on the way back with many sights to see and much sangria to consume...

Sounds very good, however in Ibiza you will probably find me at BORA BORA - I will seriously battle to cycle when the Party is on.

I spent plenty days there after some rough nights at Space and DC10... Luckily the scooters we rented had auto pilot.

Aaaaah, the memories
