r0adrunner Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Wondering why you did not include Merida in your list. Merida big 9 XT-M is a nicely priced bike and the geometry is awesome(I think). As mentioned above, the wheelset is a biggie! Often people look at the "face value", being what groupset it comes with but I think the wheels play a big role and often the bikes come with very average wheels but a super groupset, where a good wheelset may well benefit you quite a bit more.

With regards to the merida, I do have one(now the wifes bike) and was looking for something new. With regards to the wheels, the spez has roval rims and hi lo hubs they are heavy and the hubs are not great. I bought the bike for everything exept the wheels as I have a set of ztr crest with fire eye hubs that will go on the bike to replace the roval wheels r0adrunner 1
