Does anyone know the best places / where it's allowed to ride around the southern 'burbs of CT with your pooches off the leash?

I know where to ride and I know where to walk but I never actually have worked out where it's best to do both.

Any ideas, want to knacker these mongrels out.

Tokai Forest Lower Aboretum

You can find some little pieces of singletrack within the trees that you can ride.

Otherwise there is the +-5km "paved" route.

Thanks, I know you see a lot of people in the plantation walking with their dogs but I know the horse riders get twitchy.

What about from Rhodes mem?

If you thinking Rhodes then Deer Park might be an option I've seen a few guys do it. Just be prepared for some evil eyes

Last time tired to take my dog to Silvermine/Tokai/Elephants Eye I was told I need a permit which I'm still trying to get my hands on.

The permits are easy enough to get.

Dog walking is a level 1 permit and cycling is a level 3 permit, both can be bought at the cape nature office in Tokai. Not sure of the level 1 cost but the level 3 is R360 per annum.

I always tack a dog walking permit on when I get my crayfish licence. It's about R100 or so but is priceless when they are doing spot checks at Newlands forest firestation and won't let anyone up without one. The scenes of indignation by the Newlands / Bishopscourt massive as they stomp back to their Mercs and bmws muttering and tutting. Hilarious.

Last time I was there I was the only person in an hour that had a permit.

What are your thoughts about going the other way towards N/forest? Have seen a couple of riders coming through the upper road that goes past the rivers and thats pretty much one of my walking running routes anyway.
