So this is our countries line up

17 Jul 2013

South African BMX riders will be competing in the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships taking place in Auckland, New Zealand from 24 to 28 July.

As per the new UCI qualifying criteria for the elite category, South Africa has qualified two elite men, two junior elite men and one elite woman.

Elite Men

Sifiso Nhlapo

Kyle Dodd

Junior Elite Men

Alex Limberg

Jaden Laubscher

Elite Woman

Teagan O'Keeffe

Dodd, Nhlapo and O’Keeffe have been participating in the World Cups in the early season and would have been fine-tuning their preparations ahead of the championship event.

For Limberg and Laubscher, they are part of the first wave of junior elites to be participating at this year’s Worlds, which will serve as a qualifier for next year’s Youth Olympic Games. They have spent the past week training with National BMX Coach Jonnathan Chislett in Copenhagen, Denmark. Prior to their trip, the youngsters had never been down a Supercross start hill, although they have both competed at worlds before; Limberg in the 16 Expert class and Laubscher in the 17-24 Men class. Both have taken full advantage of the Supercross facility in Denmark in preparation for the world event.

Chislett said, “Both Alex and Jaden seem really happy with their riding. Now that they have had a chance to ride the Supercross start hill and track, we can look forward to a more prepared and confident group of junior men in New Zealand.”

In BMX racing, privateers can race in the World Championships in the Challenge and Cruiser Categories, and a strong SA team will be vying for championship titles in Auckland.

Selected riders:

Dylan Eggar

Alex Goncalves

Tyrone Johns

Kai Brett

Alex Dolman

Dylan Whittle

Connor Terblanche

Kane Herbert

Jarod Ellse

Jonnathan Chislett

1 week training on a supercross start hill!!!! what a joke. Just another division of CSA that needs an enema.

Hopefully Skizzo; Dodd, O'keeffe & Herbert will redeem us with some world numbers this year.

The selection has been a joke since the early 80's.

I remember the year I was due to get SA colours, my parents couldn't afford to send me to the worlds so I never got the colours, the ones who could afford it got the colours

To put that start into perspective, the pros are hitting the first jump at 60kph, that's like sprinting st full tilt on a road bike and then hitting a ramp.........RESPECT

As to ur comments on the world squad picked for New Zealand, I was just wondering how u have come to these conclusions of urs! Do u frequent our race meetings and if so how come u don't have the balls to voice ur opinion at the track! It sounds like u my friend are the one who needs an enima because ur full of it!!!!! I wonder if and insignificant little coward like urself has ever even been down a Supercross Hill and jumped the 12meter double at the bottom, as u so put! Those two new jnr elite men did just that! Y do we always have insignificant snot heads posting crap like this on forums!!!! Just a thought pal.

Do u even know any of the other selected riders? There are some very talented riders in squad, so y don't u be fair and give them a chance! Nothing taken away from Kane but Jaden out qualified in the 17to24 Worlds in Birmingham last year! Play nice and if u haven't got anything possitive to say, please shut up!!!!

Wow!!! I had to read this a few times to understand it properly. You seriously need extra spelling lessons.

First of all go back to my original post and read it properly. I never said anything negative about the riders, they all champions in their own right and most deserve to be at worlds for their efforts and dedication to the sport. My point is, if CSA expects their junior elite riders to master the elite start ramp in such a small amount of time, and then expect them to piss with the big dogs at worlds then they living a pipe dream. personally I hope they get lucky and come home with at least world numbers for their efforts. So my point in question is with CSA not with the riders. If BMXSA want to see results in this arena then they need to start putting riders in Europe and USA for them to compete at an international level, and not just simply throwing the best we've been able to produce locally and expect them to perform.

Calling me a coward and a snot head, and then referring to me as your pal.....well i'm confused......I will however let it pass, as not to get into a slinging match on this forum. But anytime you wanna take it further or call me out to perhaps voice your opinion of me to my face, let me know i'd be more than happy to oblige

WTF!!!!! you just don't seem to be able to stop thinking up of more and more garbage to post. But I suppose it's a good way of getting your post count up.

Well one could say I've had a beer or 2 and chewed the fat with some of the riders & selectors. maybe even thrown some money at the sport and done a bit of fund raising for their sorties to the Worlds.

What interests me, is now you making reference to certain riders in particular, which leads me to believe maybe there is something else on your mind which you would like to voice but I don't you have the balls to do it on an open forum like this, maybe scared of being identified who you really are.

But seen you mention the likes of Herbert & Laubscher, their results for 2012 are public knowledge, why don't you go look them up and tell us where each of them ended their 2012 seasons. And while you about it, look up their 2013 results to date and let us know those as well. Then you can get some credibility on this forum by backing up your statement of who the better rider is.

I have a question for you now.

Your Hub name is 147. Is it just a coincidence that 147 is Jaden Laubscher's number, and you just happen to be punting for him.

I see your Avatar pic has Gary Herbert in it. For the sake of the few other followers of this topic, that is Kane Herberts father. So why would you use that in your Avatar, or is it because it also has Wendon laubsher in the middle which of course is Jaden's dad. mmmm the plot thickens

Here's a better pic you can use as an Avatar.

I couldn't find one (with you) (your son) (your friend) in front, maybe sometime in the future there will be one
