The pace seems to have slowed but they have some hours in the bag so it's fine. I guess that last 400km or so are going to hurt, unless everything is numb...

Yeah, sure they're hurting a whole bunch now :-( Finish is close.

Day 5 of LEL.

Gray was last seen at Market Rasen, 1195km, last night at 2000. 205km from London.

Critcher and Gahan got to Market Rasen at 1925 last night.

Hopefield got to Kirton, 1219km last night at 2226GMT

Walkerr got to Market Rasen at 2338 last night.

With less than 200km and a day to do it in, they should all finish. After four days and 1200km, its taking them over 8 hours to do a 100km. Vasbyt, my friends. Almost done!

being naïve, why is the pace so slow ? Is it the law of averages ? or they all just taking it easy ?

The time includes stops at control points, etc.

So total time not ride time. I have done a 400 km before (total time ± 20 hrs) - things start to get REAL slow at the end. And this is 1 400km!!!

Information coming in that Gillian picked up an injury on day two, crossing the Pennines and has been in severe pain ever since. Yesterday was apparently most challenging with headwinds and driving rain through Yorkshire. Gillian is showing great courage by carrying on. Apparently today is forecast fine and clear. Hopefully they should now be 150km from the finish. The cutoff is at 2am tonight, so they're still on to finish.

Agree with Underachiever. Strange things happen when you are sleep deprived. On a 600 I battle to average 20km/h. The longer you ride without proper sleep the slower you get. A 10km stretch that you breeze through when you're fresh can seem interminable. The best ultradistance cyclists in the world battle to maintain 25 km/h on RAAM. For us mere mortals 10-15km/h over these distances is often how it plays out.

Very sad about this. Do you have details?

It seems his legs were ok, but his bum not!!! Could not sit anymore. He did not have the best prep time since the beginning of the year, so he lacked some "time in the saddle" And I forgot to tell him about the magic of Milkobalm!!

Yikes. Sounds painful. I have a sense that us larger cyclists suffer more in this department on longer rides. Still, champion effort!

Girls just got to St. Ives. 100clicks to go in 14 hours. Should be fine. Nigel not far behind.

Hopefield should be crossing the line shortly.

Walker last seen at Kirkton, should almost be at St. Ives.
